Job Overview:
The Technical Adviser position is a senior role within CHAI’s Solar Financing Programme, which aims to enhance energy resilience and efficiency in public health facilities across South Africa. The adviser will provide technical oversight and strategic guidance on solar PV and energy efficiency projects, ensuring that interventions are technically sound, financially viable, and operationally feasible. The Technical Adviser will also engage with various stakeholders, including government departments and private sector partners, to ensure the successful implementation and sustainability of energy initiatives. Duties and Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities of the Technical Adviser include providing expert technical advice on the design and implementation of solar PV and energy efficiency systems, reviewing technical and financial models, supporting procurement and contracting frameworks, and advising on energy performance monitoring. The adviser will ensure technical quality across CHAI’s deliverables, oversee project site visits, and support the Programme Manager in developing implementation plans and risk registers. A minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience in solar PV design, energy project management, or infrastructure financing is required, preferably within the public health or development sectors. Strong technical knowledge of solar PV system components, design principles, and performance monitoring tools is essential. Experience with procurement models and financial structuring for energy projects is also necessary, along with excellent project management and stakeholder coordination skills. Candidates should demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, particularly in translating complex technical content into actionable recommendations. Experience in South Africa’s energy or health infrastructure sectors is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
