Job Overview:
The Projects/Data Officer position within the IMF’s Statistics Department (STA) focuses on the Financial Institutions Division (STAFI) and is centered around the Financial Access workstream, particularly the Financial Access Survey (FAS) database. This role is crucial for supporting the IMF's analytical, policy, and operational activities related to financial sector surveillance. The successful candidate will be responsible for data management and analysis, statistical methodology, and capacity development for the FAS, which aims to enhance financial inclusion globally. The position requires collaboration with various departments and external partners to meet data needs and support the development of high-quality, consistent, and comparable financial statistics across countries. The role also involves contributing to the global FAS database, which provides vital insights into access to financial services across more than 190 economies, thereby assisting policymakers in identifying gaps and designing interventions to improve financial access.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will engage in a variety of tasks under the supervision of senior staff, including: assisting in data management and analysis for the FAS; preparing charts and providing methodological advice; maintaining and enhancing the FAS data; contributing to the survey’s revamp focusing on emerging issues such as consumer protection and fintech; supporting capacity development programs through training and technical assistance; collaborating with other Fund departments for surveillance activities; contributing to analytical work agendas; participating in the G20’s Data Gaps Initiative 3; and collaborating with international organizations and stakeholders. The role requires a proactive approach to managing assignments and working under tight deadlines, ensuring that the division's objectives are met effectively.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in economics, finance, statistics, computer science, or a related field, or a university degree supplemented by a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, candidates with a minimum of two years of relevant experience at Grade A08 or equivalent are also eligible. Strong expertise in data management is essential, with proficiency in R, Stata, and Power BI being required, while familiarity with Python is advantageous. Candidates should also have a solid foundation in financial inclusion and experience in supporting data analysis for published research.

Educational Background:
An advanced degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, or a related field is required for this position. Candidates with a university degree supplemented by significant relevant experience may also be considered. The educational background should ideally include coursework or training in quantitative methods, data science, and econometrics, as these skills are crucial for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience at a professional level, particularly in data management and analysis. Candidates with experience in financial inclusion, statistical methodologies, and capacity development programs will be preferred. Experience in supporting data analysis for published research is also valuable, as is familiarity with international statistical standards and practices.

Languages:
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are mandatory for this position. Additionally, a working knowledge of Spanish, French, or Arabic would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and contribute to the IMF's global mission.

This is a one-year contractual appointment with the possibility of renewal for up to four years, contingent on performance, budget availability, and ongoing business needs.
