Job Overview: The Education Officer position at NRC involves implementing and managing education programs aimed at supporting children and youth in emergency contexts. The role requires conducting needs assessments to identify educational gaps and needs within beneficiary communities, facilitating the delivery of NRC's education programming, and ensuring that educational materials are contextualized and distributed effectively. The Education Officer will also be responsible for training teachers and educational personnel, promoting the right to education, and engaging with communities to raise awareness about educational issues. This position is crucial for ensuring that children and youth have access to quality education, even in challenging circumstances, and for promoting safe and inclusive programming principles throughout all educational activities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Education Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting needs assessments to identify the educational needs of children and youth; facilitating the implementation of NRC's education programs; engaging with beneficiary communities to ensure their needs are met; contextualizing and distributing learning kits and school materials; developing literacy and numeracy materials for emergency learning; delivering training on the Better Learning Program (PSS) to teachers and educational personnel; providing life skills training to youth; organizing vocational training and capacity-building initiatives; promoting the right to education in emergencies; conducting awareness campaigns on educational issues; collecting data for monitoring and evaluation of education activities; writing regular reports on project progress; acting as an interpreter and translating documents as needed; and undertaking any additional duties assigned by the Project Coordinator or Project Manager to enhance project implementation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Education Officer position must possess a range of qualifications, including experience working in humanitarian or emergency contexts, particularly in education interventions. They should have documented results related to the responsibilities of the position, strong facilitation and reporting skills, and fluency in English, both written and verbal. Knowledge of local languages is also an asset. Educational Background: A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university is required for this position. Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least one year of working experience with local or international NGOs, UN agencies, or similar organizations. Experience in implementing education in emergency activities and working with youth is preferred, as is familiarity with the INEE Minimum Standards for education in emergencies.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in local languages is considered an asset, as it enhances communication with beneficiary communities and facilitates effective program implementation.
