Job Overview: The Education Project Assistant will play a crucial role in implementing education projects at the field level, working under the supervision of the Education Project Officer. This position requires a proactive approach to support the delivery of educational activities, ensuring that they align with the overall project objectives. The assistant will be responsible for monitoring and supervising incentive-based teachers and volunteers, developing training schedules, and engaging with the community to promote educational initiatives. The role demands regular travel to field locations to monitor progress, provide support, and gather feedback from beneficiaries, ensuring that the educational needs of children, particularly those from vulnerable backgrounds, are met effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Education Project Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
Implement planned education activities at the field level under the guidance of the Education Project Officer.
Monitor and supervise incentive-based teachers and volunteers, ensuring adherence to project work-plans and objectives.
Develop and regularly update class/training schedules and outreach plans for assigned activities.
Conduct regular field visits to monitor, support, and report on educational activities.
Facilitate direct communication and feedback with beneficiaries and relevant host communities.
Support the distribution of teaching and learning materials.
Perform any other tasks relevant to the position as requested by the line manager.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
Experience working in a humanitarian or recovery context, particularly in complex and volatile environments.
Documented results related to previous responsibilities in education or child protection.
Solid computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Proven ability to multi-task and meet deadlines effectively.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team setting.
Understanding of the educational context in Benghazi, including the challenges faced by IDP, returnee, and refugee children.
Educational Background: A university bachelor’s degree is required for this position, preferably in education, social sciences, or a related field. Candidates should have a strong academic background that supports their understanding of educational principles and practices, particularly in humanitarian settings.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in education or child protection, with a focus on project implementation. Experience in non-formal education activities and working with children is highly desirable, as is familiarity with the specific challenges faced by displaced populations in the region.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic, both written and spoken, is mandatory. Proficiency in English is also required, as it will facilitate communication with international staff and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is full-time and may require regular travel to field locations. The role is designed for individuals who can handle insecure environments and are committed to empowering and building trust within affected communities.
