Job Overview:
The Communication Intern will work under the direct supervision of the Communication Specialist, gaining valuable experience in the field of communication for international development. The intern will support the creation and dissemination of content that raises awareness of UNFPA's work on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and youth development in the Pacific region. A structured work-plan will be established to outline achievements and learning opportunities throughout the internship. Regular progress meetings will be held to foster a supportive environment that enhances the intern's skills and capacity in alignment with UNFPA's mandate. The intern will be involved in developing engaging multimedia content, which is crucial for promoting UNFPA's initiatives and reaching a wider audience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting in the development of content for various communication channels such as social media, websites, and publications; creating short videos, web stories, animations, infographics, and photographs; conducting research and gathering information to support content creation; managing social media tasks, including scheduling posts and engaging with followers; assisting in multimedia editing and design; participating in brainstorming sessions and providing creative inputs; monitoring social media trends and identifying opportunities to promote UNFPA's work; staying informed on current issues related to SRHR and youth development in the Pacific; and performing other duties as assigned by the Communications Supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following qualifications: visual storytelling skills; proficiency in photography and videography; strong writing and editing skills; research and analytical skills; ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team; effective communication and interpersonal skills; and proficiency in social media platforms. These qualifications are essential for the intern to successfully contribute to the communication efforts of UNFPA.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be enrolled in the final year of a first university degree program (such as a bachelor’s degree or equivalent), be enrolled in a master’s degree program, or have recently graduated with a university degree as defined above. If selected, the intern must start the internship within one year of graduation. Alternatively, candidates may be enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee program and undertake the internship as part of this program.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandated, candidates should demonstrate relevant skills and competencies that align with the responsibilities of the internship. Experience in communication, media, or related fields will be advantageous and may enhance the candidate's application.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position. Proficiency in a Pacific Island language is considered a plus, as it may enhance communication efforts within the region and with local communities.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid; however, UNFPA provides a monthly stipend to interns. Candidates are required to have medical insurance for the duration of the internship, as UNFPA does not provide medical insurance for interns.
