Job Overview:
The Senior Coordinator will play a pivotal role in coordinating UNCTAD's work on emerging risks, crises, and partnerships aimed at innovative solutions. Reporting directly to the Secretary-General of UNCTAD, the incumbent will be responsible for leading the preparation of timely analyses and political assessments that support discussions on confidence-building measures. This role requires the development of strategic analyses to inform negotiations, drawing on lessons from past trade facilitation efforts. The Senior Coordinator will also manage outreach activities with multi-stakeholder partners and lead the development and evaluation of solutions emerging from negotiations. The position demands a proactive approach to policy development, coordination of research activities, and preparation of various written outputs, including reports and background papers. The Senior Coordinator will also direct substantive support for meetings and conferences, lead field missions, and coordinate budget-related activities, ensuring effective resource mobilization and reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Coordinator include: leading the preparation of analyses and political assessments; developing strategic analyses for negotiations; providing leadership in generating forward-looking analyses; managing outreach activities with multi-stakeholder partners; developing and evaluating solutions from negotiations; coordinating policy development for emerging risks and crises; supervising the preparation of written outputs; directing support for consultative meetings and conferences; leading field missions; coordinating budget and funding activities; serving as a spokesperson; ensuring effective staff utilization and development; and performing other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration, or a related area. Experience in designing and implementing institutional strategies in response to crises of major global impact is essential. Additionally, experience in managing multi-stakeholder initiatives and providing senior-level advice to management is required. The role demands strong leadership skills and the ability to navigate complex political environments.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in public administration, international relations, development, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of ten years of relevant experience, particularly in project or programme management and administration. Candidates should have a proven track record in managing complex initiatives and providing strategic guidance in high-stakes environments.

Languages:
English is required at UN Level III proficiency, while French is desirable at UN Level II proficiency. The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French, and candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills in these languages.
