Job Overview: The IDMC Analyst position involves rigorous data collection and analysis regarding internal displacement. The analyst will contribute to the monitoring of over 130 countries, providing verified estimates of the number of people internally displaced or at risk of displacement due to conflict, violence, disasters, and development projects. The role requires a strong understanding of the drivers and impacts of internal displacement, as well as the ability to provide tailored advice to inform policy-making at global, regional, and national levels. The analyst will also engage in interdisciplinary research to complement the global data and will be responsible for publishing findings on the IDMC website and through the Global Internal Displacement Database. This position is crucial for informing operational decisions that aim to improve the lives of those affected by internal displacement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive data collection and analysis on internal displacement trends and patterns across various countries.
Collaborate with a team of researchers to produce interdisciplinary studies that explore the drivers and impacts of internal displacement.
Provide verified, consolidated, and multi-sourced estimates of the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and those at risk of displacement.
Prepare and publish reports, including the flagship Global Report on Internal Displacement, which features trends, thematic analyses, and country and regional spotlights.
Engage with stakeholders, including policymakers and humanitarian organizations, to disseminate findings and provide tailored advice.
Maintain and update the Global Internal Displacement Database with accurate and relevant data.
Participate in advocacy efforts to raise awareness about the challenges faced by IDPs and promote their rights.
Required Qualifications:
Strong analytical skills with a focus on data collection and interpretation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Knowledge of humanitarian principles and the context of internal displacement.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in social sciences, international relations, statistics, or a related field is required. Candidates with a strong academic background in research methodologies and data analysis will be preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in data analysis, research, or a related field is required. Experience working in humanitarian contexts or with displaced populations is highly desirable. Familiarity with international displacement issues and policies will be an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English and French is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the regions monitored by IDMC would be considered an asset.
