Job Overview: The position of ET Temporary at the World Bank in Chennai involves working within the WBG Controllers (CTR) team, which is responsible for all aspects of financial reporting and internal control for IBRD, IDA, IFC, and their extensive Trust Fund/Partnership portfolio. The role is crucial in ensuring fiduciary responsibility for all disbursements related to Bank operations. The Chennai team, known as CTRCC, collaborates with the Washington D.C. team to manage financial reporting for IBRD and IDA, including the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, management discussions, and analyses. The position requires a comprehensive understanding of financial dynamics, enabling the team to assess the impact of market and institutional developments on financial results. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain financial ledgers, approve transactions, and support various financial reporting and analysis tasks, contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities for this position include maintaining the financial ledgers and approving transactions that lead to the generation of accounting records and the monthly closing of IBRD/IDA books. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining capital accounts for IBRD and IDA, coordinating the monthly trial balance close process for decentralized business units, and preparing internal and external financial statements and reports. Additionally, the role involves responding to inquiries from management regarding financial results, participating in internal control assessments, and supporting projects by analyzing their impact on accounting and reporting. The candidate will also be involved in testing new system applications and functionalities, ensuring a thorough understanding of the underlying business processes.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Chartered Accountant degree and a Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a relevant discipline. A minimum of 0-1 year of post-qualification experience in similar or complementary roles is required. Knowledge of accounting and reporting standards, finance concepts, and business practices is essential, with exposure to US GAAP preferred. Candidates should demonstrate good conceptual, analytical, and appraisal skills, along with the ability to interpret and present financial information clearly. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are necessary, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Windows applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
