Job Overview:
The Environmental Adviser will serve as the lead expert on climate and environmental issues for the European Union Mission to Armenia. This role is crucial in guiding the integration of sustainability into all mission activities, supporting the implementation of EU climate policy, and enhancing the mission's environmental performance. The adviser will provide analysis, training, and advice on the climate-security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security nexus, ensuring that local and international partners are engaged in promoting climate-smart and sustainable approaches. The position is specifically for Norwegian citizens, emphasizing the importance of local expertise in addressing environmental challenges within the mission's framework.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The main tasks of the Environmental Adviser include serving as the mission’s focal point for environmental and climate issues, advising leadership on the application of EU climate and environmental policies, and integrating climate considerations across mission operations. The adviser will improve overall environmental performance through technical and managerial guidance, deliver training, raise awareness, and contribute to environmental and climate analyses, including security implications and the mission's duty of care. Additionally, the adviser will develop mechanisms to monitor and implement EU and international climate frameworks, support strategic communications, and ensure that mission staff are informed about sustainability and climate-smart approaches, maintaining long-term partnerships aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed at least 3 years of university studies at the Bachelor’s level or equivalent (EQF level 6) in fields such as environmental health, environmental science, natural resource management, sustainability, or a related area. Furthermore, a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience is required. Essential skills include the ability to conduct environmental assessments and analyses, provide advice on sustainable solutions, deliver training, and apply the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement. Proficiency in English at a minimum B2 level is also essential for this role.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in environmental health, environmental science, natural resource management, sustainability, or a related field. This foundational education is critical for understanding the complexities of environmental issues and the necessary approaches to address them effectively within the mission's context.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in environmental fields, particularly in roles that involve climate and environmental policy implementation, sustainability practices, and crisis management. Experience in international contexts, especially with multinational or international organizations, is highly valued, as it provides insight into the complexities of working in diverse environments.

Languages:
English proficiency at a minimum B2 level is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of Russian and/or Armenian is considered desirable, as it may enhance communication and collaboration with local stakeholders and partners.
