Duties and Responsibilities:
The Armed Groups Expert will have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: monitoring sanctions measures and investigating alleged violations; participating in investigations related to the conflict in South Sudan; preparing reports and recommendations for the Security Council; compiling information on individuals and entities involved in sanctions violations; analyzing information regarding arms transfers and military assistance; delivering briefings and presentations on the sanctions regime; contributing to the preparation of the Panel's work program; participating in investigative missions; drafting correspondence; and ensuring compliance with UN regulations and safety protocols. The expert will also be responsible for maintaining high standards of evidence and methodology in their reports and providing due process to all parties involved in investigations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in military science, political science, international relations, law, journalism, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in a relevant area is required, including at least three years of field experience. Candidates should demonstrate strong field research and investigative skills, experience in writing high-quality reports, and proven interpersonal skills in complex political environments. A solid understanding of sanctions regimes within the UN or similar organizations is highly desirable, as is experience working under UN regulations and methods.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced university degree, specifically a Master's degree or equivalent, in fields such as military science, political science, international relations, law, or journalism.
