Job Overview:
The Head of Sales for South Africa will be responsible for executing a strategy that focuses on generating profitable and sustainable growth for the business. This role involves devising and managing strategies and techniques to achieve consistent and profitable growth in sales revenues and targets. The incumbent will oversee the planning, deployment, and management of Third-Party Commercial Operations and the Viya Health Sales Organization. A key aspect of this position is to keep the sales team motivated to achieve sales targets, thereby fulfilling the strategic objectives of the organization. The Head of Sales will also be involved in managing high standards of communication and delivering best-in-class services, ensuring that the sales team is well-equipped to meet the demands of the market.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Head of Sales will lead and provide guidance to a high-quality sales team, promoting synergy and best practice sharing among resources. This includes driving active cross-functional collaboration to ensure the success of all marketing and commercial projects, as well as launch excellence. The incumbent will manage the sales and co-op team budgets and expenses, develop and manage overall sales objectives for South Africa, and ensure accurate sales forecasts for both short and long term. Responsibilities also include analyzing revenue growth, monitoring profit margins and targets, networking with potential customers and business partners, and establishing effective relationships with other departments such as Marketing, Finance, Regulatory & Quality, and HR. The Head of Sales will create a sales culture through development and coaching, ensure sound performance management processes, and continuously scout for talent. Additionally, the role involves ensuring the professional and effective launching of new or line extension products, and managing business reviews, market intelligence, competitor insights, and relevant contracts management.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science, Commerce, Marketing, or an equivalent education (NQF Level 7). An MBA or equivalent is also required (NQF Level 8). The position requires a minimum of 10+ years of experience in a sales management position, particularly in an independent channels environment within FMCG or pharmaceuticals, with demonstrable line management experience. Proven experience within the pharmaceutical industry, both in the private and public sectors, is a key advantage. Candidates should have strong financial acumen, with a proven ability to plan and manage budgets effectively, as well as excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science, Commerce, Marketing, or a related field (NQF Level 7). Additionally, candidates must hold an MBA or an equivalent qualification (NQF Level 8).

Experience:
The role requires a minimum of 10+ years of professional experience in a sales management position, specifically within the FMCG or pharmaceutical sectors. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing teams and achieving sales targets, with experience in both private and public sector pharmaceutical environments being a significant advantage.

Languages:
Strong communication skills in English are mandatory, and proficiency in additional languages may be considered beneficial but is not explicitly required for this position.

Additional Notes:
This position is based in Irene, South Africa, and may require up to 60% travel. The role reports to the Managing Executive and is expected to foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the sales team.
