Job Overview:
The Driver position at UNESCO in Beirut is a critical role that involves providing reliable and safe driving services to support the operations of the UNESCO Office. The Driver will work under the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office and will be directly supervised by the Senior Operations Officer. The primary expectation from this position is to ensure the highest standards of discretion and integrity while driving UNESCO staff, officials, and visitors. The Driver is also responsible for maintaining the vehicle in good condition, ensuring safety and compliance with driving regulations, and assisting with basic visa and customs formalities when necessary. This role requires a strong sense of responsibility and excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues, as well as the ability to communicate effectively in both Arabic and English.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver's duties include driving UNESCO staff, officials, visitors, and authorized personnel using official vehicles, ensuring reliable and safe driving services. The Driver will meet personnel and visitors at the airport and facilitate basic visa and customs formalities when required. Additionally, the Driver will translate in the local language for the Director or other officials as needed. Responsibilities also include driving on field trips, maintaining the assigned vehicle through daily logs, minor repairs, and arranging for major repairs. The Driver must ensure the vehicle is clean and in good running condition, prepare maintenance plans, and ensure all required documents and supplies are available in the vehicle. Timely and accurate reporting of accidents is also a key responsibility, along with delivering and collecting mail and documents. The Driver may also undertake the duties of other drivers when they are on leave and perform additional activities to ensure the success of the work team.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be Lebanese nationals or hold a valid work permit in Lebanon at the time of application. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a valid driver’s license. Candidates should have at least two years of driving experience with a safe driving record and the ability to drive a 4x4 vehicle. Knowledge of driving regulations, rules, and laws, as well as skills in minor vehicle repair and maintenance, are essential. Good communication skills and the ability to work with multicultural teams are also required.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification. This foundational education is necessary to ensure that the candidate possesses the basic knowledge and skills required for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of driving experience, with a proven safe driving record. Candidates should be capable of driving a 4x4 vehicle and have experience in maintaining vehicles, which includes performing minor repairs and ensuring the vehicle is in good working condition.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory for this position. This bilingual requirement is crucial for effective communication with staff, officials, and visitors. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an advantage, particularly in enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is for a duration of one year, and it is open to external candidates. The role is primarily based in Lebanon, but occasional travel outside Lebanon may be required.
