Job Overview:
The position of Health and MHPSS Data Support is crucial for the successful implementation of IOM's Health and Mental Health and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) projects in the Mekelle region of Tigray, Ethiopia. The incumbent will work under the overall direction of the Chief Migration Health Officer, with technical oversight from the Program Officer for Health and MHPSS, and direct supervision from the Migration Health Officer. This role involves supporting the IOM data for the Health and MHPSS team, ensuring that quality health services are delivered as part of the IOM Mobile Health and Nutrition teams. The position requires a proactive approach to implementing and monitoring health and MHPSS project activities, as well as compiling and presenting data on specific project topics. The successful candidate will also be responsible for budget monitoring, administrative coordination, and drafting various reports and documentation related to project activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Health and MHPSS Data Support position include:
  • Assisting in the implementation and monitoring of health and MHPSS project activities to ensure they meet the required standards.
  • Retrieving, compiling, summarizing, and presenting information and data on specific project topics under the migration health unit.
  • Monitoring project budgets, verifying the availability of funds, obtaining necessary approvals, and updating budget-related information.
  • Supporting the administrative coordination of project implementation, which involves liaising with various organizational units and external parties to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, and process administrative actions.
  • Drafting status reports that identify shortfalls in delivery and bringing them to the attention of the supervisor.
  • Preparing correspondence, reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentations, and other forms of documentation as required.
  • Organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions to facilitate project activities.
  • Responding to general information requests and inquiries, and maintaining organized files and records.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Health and MHPSS Data Support position include:
  • A University Degree in computer science, statistics, epidemiology, or a related field in health statistics.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in managing health data, preferably in a humanitarian or development context.
  • Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies, and non-governmental organizations.
  • Familiarity with working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, and other vulnerable groups.
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations or government institutions in a multicultural setting is an advantage.
  • Skills in primary health care and knowledge of nationally and internationally accepted protocols and guidelines are beneficial.
  • Proficiency in computer applications relevant to data management and analysis.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a University Degree in computer science, statistics, epidemiology, or a related field in health statistics. The educational institutions must be accredited and recognized, preferably those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of health data management and analysis in the context of migration health.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant experience in managing health data. Experience in working with governmental authorities, national and international institutions, United Nations agencies, and non-governmental organizations is highly desirable. Additionally, experience in emergency health response or implementing health services for migrants, refugees, and displaced persons is a significant advantage. Familiarity with early recovery or post-crisis emergency health programming is also beneficial, as is experience in recognized institutions in primary health care.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required for this position. As IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish, proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments. Knowledge of additional languages may enhance a candidate's application but is not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
The position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Ethiopia will be considered. Any offer made to the candidate is contingent upon funding confirmation. The selection process may also be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar positions for a period of 24 months. Appointment will be subject to certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and necessary authorizations by the concerned government, where applicable.
