Job Overview: The Social Cohesion, Peace Consolidation and Conflict Prevention Officer plays a crucial role in the implementation of the Social Cohesion project in Timor-Leste. This position is designed to strengthen social cohesion and prevent conflict by empowering marginalized groups, particularly youth and women, to engage in community activities. The officer will coordinate with local assistants in Baucau and Viqueque municipalities to facilitate community engagement, civic education, and dialogue-based initiatives. The role requires a professional facilitator who can build constructive relationships within communities, resolve disputes peacefully, and address the root causes of conflict. The officer will oversee daily project activities, ensuring adherence to quality standards and timelines while promoting inclusive governance and peacebuilding efforts. Duties and Responsibilities: The Social Cohesion, Peace Consolidation and Conflict Prevention Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Field-Based Supervision: Ensure effective implementation of social cohesion activities by coordinating with the Social Cohesion Assistant, facilitating regular meetings to review progress, and providing guidance and technical support.
Coordination: Act as the focal point for daily activities, ensuring alignment with work plans and budgets, and supporting logistical coordination with local communities and stakeholders.
Monitoring & Reporting: Regularly monitor project progress, identify challenges, and report findings to the Project Manager, ensuring targets are met and data collection is conducted as per deliverables.
Communication: Organize awareness-raising sessions, develop communication materials, and manage social media content to promote project visibility and engagement.
Community Engagement: Build relationships with local stakeholders to foster participation and ownership of project activities, representing the project in local meetings when necessary.
Capacity Building: Assist in implementing capacity-building activities for community stakeholders, focusing on social cohesion, conflict prevention, and gender equality. Facilitate dialogue spaces and participatory activities to promote trust and engagement among diverse groups.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong facilitation and coordination skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. They should demonstrate a commitment to social cohesion, peacebuilding, and community engagement. Knowledge of conflict dynamics and experience in implementing community-based projects are essential. Candidates should also have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances in the field.
