Job Overview: The Author-coordinator of Clinical Guidelines plays a crucial role within the International Guideline Publications (IGP) team of the International Medical Quality and Patient Safety (IMQPP) department. This position is responsible for coordinating the development and maintenance of the content quality of MSF Clinical Guidelines, ensuring that they are scientifically sound, up-to-date, and relevant to the operational environment of MSF. The author will write and revise text and chapters for the Clinical Guidelines, provide input to other MSF international guidelines, and contribute to the continuous improvement of methodologies used by the IGP team. The role requires close collaboration with various stakeholders, including MSF Intersectional Medical platform leaders and experts, to ensure that the guidelines reflect the latest evidence and best practices in medical care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Management - Planning: Generate an annual plan of updates in collaboration with the Editor of the Clinical Guidelines and the Pharmacist for Essential Drugs, coordinating with other IGP members and MSF Intersectional Medical platform leaders. Adjust planning based on new evidence or user feedback.
Writing: Conduct literature searches and reviews to support content with current scientific evidence. Write draft updates, maintaining consistency and compliance with MSF guidelines. Coordinate with the editor throughout the writing process, integrating feedback from experts. Prepare discussion documents for unresolved topics and finalize texts for publication.
Project Management - Coordination: Manage input from MSF and external experts, facilitate consensus-seeking on content revisions, and ensure coherence across international guidelines. Create mechanisms for feedback transfer within the IGP team.
Project Management - Documentation: Collect and store requests for updates, track references, ensure permissions for illustrations, and archive relevant documents. Utilize IT tools for writing and documentation.
Proactive IGP Team Member: Actively participate in meetings, contribute to the annual IGP plan, and engage in budget forecasting and reporting.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in medical writing or a related field, with a deep understanding of clinical guidelines and evidence-based medicine. They should demonstrate excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise guidelines. Familiarity with MSF's operational context and humanitarian principles is highly desirable.
Educational Background: A degree in medicine, public health, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in medical writing, clinical research, or guideline development will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a solid understanding of medical terminology and clinical practices, as well as experience in guideline development or related projects.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in medical writing, clinical research, or guideline development. Experience working in humanitarian settings or with international organizations is highly valued. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of managing complex projects and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with proficiency in French and/or Spanish considered a strong asset. Knowledge of Arabic is also beneficial. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally in the required languages to engage with diverse stakeholders and experts.
