Job Overview:
The Intern position within the External Relations Team at WFP Brussels is designed for individuals who are eager to engage with European institutions and contribute to the organization's visibility and influence in Brussels. The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the engagement with key stakeholders, including the European Commission, the Council of the European Union, the European Parliament, and other relevant Brussels-based entities. The role involves analytical work, stakeholder mapping, and logistical support for events, all aimed at enhancing WFP's presence and effectiveness in the EU context. The intern will work closely with the Team Lead and other team members, gaining valuable experience in international relations and humanitarian assistance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the analytical work of WFP Brussels by collecting data and providing debriefs on various EU events.
  • Under the supervision of the Team Lead, update, maintain, and expand the stakeholder mapping document, which includes key contacts from the European Parliament, Council of the European Union, and other EU institutions, as well as Member States' line ministries responsible for foreign affairs, development assistance, and humanitarian assistance.
  • Collaborate with the team to organize and manage logistics for WFP external events in Brussels.
  • Assist the Team Lead and other team members with ad hoc duties, including monitoring relevant developments, scheduling meetings, organizing visits, and identifying upcoming events that may be pertinent to WFP's mission.
  • Deliverables at the end of the internship include an updated stakeholder mapping document, contributions to the successful organization of WFP events, and any other required outputs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Political Science, International Development, Economics, Journalism, International Relations, Communications, or a related field, having completed at least two years of their program and attended classes in the past 12 months. Alternatively, candidates may be enrolled in a graduate program or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program within six months prior to applying, also having attended classes in the past 12 months. Strong writing and editing skills, analytical and drafting abilities, and knowledge of EU affairs are essential for this role.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate or graduate program, with a focus on fields such as Political Science, International Development, Economics, Journalism, International Relations, or Communications. Candidates should have completed at least two years of their undergraduate studies or be enrolled in a graduate program, and they must have attended classes in the past 12 months to be eligible for the internship.

Experience:
The position is aimed at junior-level candidates, meaning that prior professional experience is not strictly required. However, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills and a keen interest in EU affairs and humanitarian work. The internship is designed to provide practical experience and exposure to the workings of international organizations and EU institutions.

Languages:
Fluency in English (level C) is mandatory for this position. Additionally, having an intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official EU language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders within the EU framework.

  • Interns will receive a monthly stipend of up to US$1000, depending on the duty station. WFP does not cover living expenses, accommodation arrangements, or visa costs. However, travel expenses may be reimbursed for candidates from developing countries studying in their home country.
