Job Overview:
As an Online Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in a collaborative storytelling project aimed at raising awareness about climate migration. This position involves creating visually engaging animations or videos that interpret and bring to life the narratives of individuals displaced by climate change. You will work closely with written stories gathered by previous volunteers, transforming these narratives into compelling visual content that resonates with a global audience. The goal is to create emotionally impactful and advocacy-oriented materials that can effectively communicate the experiences of climate migrants, moving viewers from passive reading to active understanding and support. Your contributions will be part of a larger initiative to build a multi-dimensional archive of advocacy, highlighting the urgent need for action on climate change and its effects on vulnerable populations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Story Interpretation: You will be assigned 2-3 written stories related to climate migration. Your task will involve reading and interpreting these narratives to develop a visual concept or storyboard that respects the original testimonies.
  • Animation/Videomaking Assistance: You will create original animations (2D, motion graphics, etc.) or videos using edited stock footage, imagery, and text overlays. The style should be engaging and accessible for social media audiences.
  • Collaboration: You will work under the guidance of the project coordinator, providing light feedback to peers when possible.
  • Finalization: You will incorporate basic text subtitles in English and ensure that the final product is in a common digital format suitable for online sharing.
  • Deliverables: You will be expected to submit a basic storyboard or visual concept plan for approval by Week 1, a first rough cut or animation draft for review by Week 3, and 1-2 finalized, subtitled animation videos (1-3 minutes each) along with a short description by Week
  • The final output will be a curated playlist of all animated stories, ready for publication on PROSDOMA’s and partners’ digital platforms to maximize outreach and impact.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of storytelling and narrative interpretation, particularly in the context of climate change and migration.
  • Proficiency in animation software (such as Adobe After Effects, Blender, or similar) and video editing tools.
  • Ability to create engaging visual content that is accessible to a diverse audience.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with team members and present ideas.
  • A passion for social justice, climate advocacy, and supporting marginalized communities.

Educational Background:
A background in animation, film production, graphic design, or a related field is preferred. However, candidates with relevant experience and a strong portfolio demonstrating their skills in visual storytelling will also be considered.

Experience:
Previous experience in animation, videomaking, or graphic design is highly desirable. Familiarity with climate change issues and migration narratives will be an asset. Experience working in collaborative environments and with diverse teams is also beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all written stories and subtitles will be in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those spoken by climate migrants, would be considered a plus but is not required.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and the duration of the commitment is flexible based on project needs. The role is remote, allowing volunteers to work from anywhere. The position is suitable for individuals looking to gain experience in visual storytelling and advocacy work, particularly in the context of climate change and migration.
