Job Overview:
The Reintegration Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of IOM's reintegration assistance activities in Ethiopia. This position involves conducting individual assessments of returnees to identify their needs and capacities, and assisting them in developing integrated reintegration plans that address their economic, social, and psychosocial needs. The successful candidate will also participate in pre-departure sessions, coordinate with sending missions, and maintain accurate case files in IOM's Migrant Management Operational System Application (MiMOSA). The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government and non-government counterparts, to ensure effective service delivery and support for returnees. Additionally, the Reintegration Assistant will contribute to capacity development activities and report on reintegration efforts in line with IOM and donor requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct individual meetings with eligible returnees to assess their needs and capacities, and assist in developing integrated reintegration plans.
  • Participate in remote pre-departure sessions to inform migrants about available assistance and reintegration processes.
  • Coordinate with sending missions regarding the provision of reintegration assistance, including eligibility confirmation and payment validation.
  • Refer migrants to specialized services and conduct regular follow-ups.
  • Maintain case files and ensure accurate data entry in MiMOSA.
  • Prepare for and undertake field missions related to reintegration activities.
  • Support administrative coordination with procurement and finance units.
  • Facilitate access to services for beneficiaries by coordinating with local counterparts.

  • Engage in Community-Based Planning (CBP) activities. 1
  • Assist in organizing capacity development activities, including training and document preparation. 1
  • Prepare reports on reintegration activities and contribute to new project proposals. 1
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from an accredited institution in fields such as economics, management, social work, international relations, political science, humanitarian affairs, economic development, business or public administration, or international studies, along with three years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a school diploma with five years of relevant experience is acceptable. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from an accredited academic institution is required, with a focus on relevant fields such as economics, management, social work, international relations, political science, humanitarian affairs, economic development, business or public administration, or international studies. Candidates with a school diploma must have five years of relevant experience to qualify for the position.

Experience:
The position requires experience in working closely with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, and other vulnerable groups, particularly in providing counseling and referral pathways. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to establish strong working relationships with government counterparts, local NGOs, international organizations, and private sector entities. Experience in return and reintegration programs, particularly in the context of Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) schemes, or related fields such as livelihood or protection programming is preferred. Previous experience with UN agencies or international/local NGOs is also advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in Amharic and English is required for this position, both oral and written. Additionally, working knowledge of other Ethiopian languages, particularly Afaan Oromoo and/or Tigrigna, is desirable. Proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
The position is subject to funding confirmation, and the selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations. Recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar positions for 24 months. This post is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates with a valid residence and work permit for Ethiopia will be considered.
