Job Overview: The Digital Communications Assistant will play a crucial role in enhancing IOM Thailand's online presence and engagement through the development and implementation of digital communication strategies. Reporting directly to the Media and Communications Officer, the selected candidate will be responsible for creating public information content, particularly in audio-visual and social media formats, that highlights the mission's key activities and achievements. The role involves interviewing project beneficiaries to draft compelling stories for dissemination across various platforms, liaising with media practitioners to improve visibility, and supporting capacity-building initiatives for media stakeholders. The assistant will also maintain and update the Media and Communications SharePoint and the mission's online platforms, create educational materials for awareness-raising initiatives, monitor media coverage related to the mission's work, and provide administrative support for national and regional communication activities. The position requires a proactive approach to undertake any other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor, ensuring that the mission's communication objectives are met effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Digital Communications Assistant include:
Supporting the implementation of the mission’s digital communications and visibility strategy.
Creating public information content, particularly audio-visual and social media content, based on the mission’s key activities and achievements.
Interviewing project beneficiaries and drafting stories for dissemination across various traditional and digital platforms.
Liaising with media practitioners to enhance the visibility of the mission’s work and promote balanced coverage of migration issues.
Assisting in the implementation of capacity-building initiatives for media stakeholders.
Maintaining, organizing, and updating the Media and Communications SharePoint and the mission’s online platforms, including the website.
Creating information, education, and communication (IEC) materials for awareness-raising initiatives.
Monitoring media coverage of the mission’s work and other developments related to migration.
Providing administrative and logistics support for national and regional communication activities. 1
Undertaking duty travel as necessary to cover mission activities. 1
Performing any other related tasks as required or assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Digital Communications Assistant position include:
A university degree in Communications, Journalism, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or related fields from an accredited academic institution, with two years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma with four years of relevant experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, E-mail, Outlook).
Experience in community engagement, outreach, advocacy, or awareness-raising initiatives.
A good understanding of migration dynamics in Thailand is an advantage.
Familiarity with the media landscape in Thailand.
Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-governmental organizations, or government institutions in a multicultural setting is an advantage.
Experience in liaising with government, media, and civil society partners is also beneficial.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a university degree in Communications, Journalism, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or related fields from an accredited academic institution. Alternatively, candidates with a high school diploma must have four years of relevant experience. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that the educational background aligns with the requirements of the position.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of two years of relevant experience if they hold a university degree, or four years of relevant experience if they possess a high school diploma. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and have experience in community engagement, outreach, advocacy, or awareness-raising initiatives. A good grasp of migration dynamics and the media landscape in Thailand is advantageous, as is prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations or government institutions in a multicultural setting.
Languages: Fluency in English and Thai is mandatory for all applicants, both oral and written. IOM’s official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may be evaluated during the selection process, which could include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: This position is classified under the General Service (G-4) category, with a monthly salary of THB 57,172.6
The appointment is a Special Short-Term Graded Contract for an initial duration of 9 months, with the possibility of extension. The estimated start date is as soon as possible, and the closing date for applications is 23 February 202
This position is open for Thai Nationals only. Any offer made to the candidate is subject to funding confirmation, and the selection process may be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations. Recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for a period of 24 months. The post is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Thailand will be considered. Appointment will also be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and government authorizations where applicable.
