Job Overview: The Senior Technical Officer for Global Healthsecurity" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (GHS) will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the EpiC project in Nigeria, particularly in Bauchi, Akwa Ibom, and Lagos States. This position is responsible for providing technical, managerial, and operational support for program planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of GHS interventions. The officer will work closely with various stakeholders, including the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and state health officials, to enhance public health systems and ensure effective response to emerging infectious diseases. The role involves capacity building, data management, and coordination of surveillance activities, all aimed at strengthening the health system's resilience and response capabilities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Technical Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties including: developing and monitoring work plans and budgets; ensuring appropriate technical assistance in program operations; coordinating partner efforts in program implementation; and ensuring accurate financial and programmatic reporting. The officer will collaborate with state public health officials to strengthen emergency management and outbreak response activities, support timely data collection and analysis, and facilitate training for local surveillance officers. Additionally, the officer will assist in developing tools for surveillance and data management, monitor implementation of surveillance activities, and support outbreak investigations as needed. The role also includes promoting adherence to infection prevention measures and maintaining productive relationships with various stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree or its international equivalent in fields such as Civil Society, Communication, Health, or a related area. A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in managing data collection and technical assistance is required. The ideal candidate should have demonstrated experience in infectious disease surveillance, public health field experience, and familiarity with GHS indicators and activities. Knowledge of Nigeria’s public health systems and experience working with international donor organizations is essential. Additional qualifications include strong communication skills, organizational abilities, and the capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
Educational Background: The position requires a Master’s Degree or its equivalent in relevant fields such as Civil Society, Communication, Health, Nutrition, or related disciplines. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of public health and the specific challenges faced in disease surveillance and response.
Experience: The Senior Technical Officer should have at least 6 years of relevant experience in public health, particularly in managing data collection and providing technical assistance. Experience in emerging and re-emerging infectious disease surveillance activities is crucial, along with a proven track record in designing and implementing capacity-building initiatives in public health settings.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in the organization and for reporting purposes. Knowledge of local languages may be beneficial for community engagement and communication with stakeholders at the state level.
Additional Notes: This position is full-time and based in Bauchi State, Nigeria. The role may require travel within Nigeria, estimated at 10% to 25%.
