Job Overview:
The Technical Officer for Global Health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (GHS) will play a crucial role in providing technical and operational support for disease surveillance and response activities across multiple states in Nigeria. This position is integral to the Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) project, which aims to enhance public health systems and address emerging infectious diseases. The officer will work under the supervision of the Senior Technical Officer, GHS, and will be responsible for coordinating with various stakeholders, including the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and state health agencies. The role involves capacity building, data management, and ensuring alignment with national public health strategies. The officer will also contribute to the development of guidelines and protocols for disease surveillance and response, ensuring that the project meets its objectives in strengthening health systems and improving outbreak preparedness.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Technical Officer, GHS will have a wide range of responsibilities, including: collaborating with the State Epidemiologist and Disease Surveillance Notification Officers (DSNOs) to enhance surveillance systems; supporting the collection, analysis, and dissemination of data on infectious diseases; providing technical assistance to state-level stakeholders; facilitating coordination between FHI 360, NCDC, and other partners; developing and delivering training initiatives for surveillance officers; assisting in the development of tools and materials for data management; monitoring surveillance activities and reporting progress; supporting outbreak investigations; promoting adherence to infection prevention measures; and establishing collaborative relationships with various stakeholders, including government agencies and international organizations. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree or its international equivalent in fields such as Civil Society, Communication, Health, or related areas. A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in managing data collection and providing technical assistance is required. Candidates should demonstrate experience in disease surveillance activities, particularly in emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. Familiarity with Nigeria's public health systems and international donor organizations is essential, along with proficiency in data collection and reporting tools. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are necessary for effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders.

Educational Background:
The position requires a Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent in relevant fields such as Civil Society, Communication and Social Marketing, Economic Development, Education, Health, Nutrition, or related disciplines. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of public health and the specific challenges faced in disease surveillance and response.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 4 years of relevant experience in public health, particularly in managing data collection and providing technical assistance. Experience in disease surveillance, especially related to emerging infectious diseases, is critical. Candidates should also have a proven track record of working in multicultural environments and collaborating with various stakeholders, including government agencies and NGOs.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with partners. Knowledge of local languages may be considered an advantage, as it can facilitate better communication with community members and stakeholders in the regions where the officer will operate.

Additional Notes:
This position is based in Nigeria, specifically in Bayelsa and Rivers States, and may require travel within the country, estimated at 10% to 25%. The role is full-time and may involve working in a typical office environment, with the expectation of spending long hours on a computer.
