Job Overview: The URRI Secretariat & Communications Support Officer will play a crucial role in enhancing the visibility of the Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI) program, which aims to improve climate resilience among women, men, and youth in refugee and host communities. This position involves a blend of coordination, organizational support, and communication tasks, ensuring that meetings, workshops, and events are executed smoothly. The officer will be responsible for managing social media channels, developing communication materials, and supporting the overall objectives of the URRI program. The role requires a proactive approach to engage with diverse stakeholders and promote the program's goals effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The officer will undertake a variety of duties, including:
Secretariat Support and Events Management (65%): - Planning, coordinating, and documenting quarterly Joint Management Group (JMG) meetings. - Organizing annual IMC meetings, including logistics and on-site facilitation. - Coordinating field visits, developing itineraries, and preparing briefing notes. - Supporting URRI program reviews and cross-consortia initiatives. - Documenting participant lists, minutes, reports, and photo documentation from events. - Following up on actions from meetings and events.
Communication, Branding and Visibility (35%): - Managing URRI’s social media channels, including content planning and analytics. - Collaborating with Consortia Communications Focal Points to maintain a centralized photo and video repository. - Collecting and packaging human-interest stories and visuals from URRI activities. - Developing press releases and success stories for dissemination. - Producing high-quality communication materials in compliance with DANIDA visibility requirements. - Providing editorial and design support to strengthen communications efforts. - Undertaking additional tasks as required to support the Secretariat's objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, International Relations, Social Sciences, Communication, Public Relations, or a related field. They should have proven experience in organizing meetings and events, managing social media channels, and excellent writing and editing skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential, along with experience in multi-partner or donor-funded programs. Skills in photography, videography, and graphic design are advantageous. The ideal candidate should be proactive, creative, flexible, and able to work independently within a fast-paced team environment. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for effective coordination across diverse stakeholders, along with excellent multitasking and time management abilities. Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Development Studies, International Relations, Social Sciences, Communication, or Public Relations is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and effective communication strategies.
Experience: The position requires at least 5 years of relevant experience in program and secretariat coordination, communications, or events management. Experience in development or humanitarian work is preferred, as it equips the candidate with the necessary skills to navigate the challenges associated with these sectors.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this role. Additionally, knowledge of local languages spoken in the URRI targeted districts is considered an asset, as it can enhance communication and engagement with local communities.
Additional Notes: The contract length for this position is 12 months, with a designated duty station in Kampala. The expected start date is March 202
