Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for several key tasks under the supervision of the Social Policy area. These include conducting systematic reviews of international evidence and literature on policies supporting parenting and care aimed at addressing low birth rates, analyzing and systematizing good practices and lessons learned relevant to the Chilean context, reviewing existing national public policies related to parenting support and social protection, and contributing to the drafting of technical notes, analytical summaries, and presentations that synthesize the main findings of the work. Additionally, the intern will collaborate on specific analytical tasks related to child poverty, demographic change, and social protection as per the priorities of the period.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the internship, applicants must be enrolled in or have graduated within the last two years from a bachelor's or postgraduate program in social sciences, such as commercial engineering, sociology, or a related field. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and must demonstrate proficiency in Spanish, the working language of UNICEF's office in Chile. Knowledge of another language will be considered an asset. Candidates should also have an excellent academic record as evidenced by recent university transcripts and must not have immediate relatives working in any UNICEF office or in the line of authority to which the intern will report.
Educational Background: Candidates must be pursuing or have completed a degree in social sciences, which includes fields such as sociology, commercial engineering, or other related disciplines. This educational background is essential to understand the complexities of social policies and their implications for child welfare and protection.
Experience: While prior experience is not mandatory, any relevant past experience will be given additional consideration. This could include internships, volunteer work, or academic projects related to social policy, child welfare, or similar areas.
Languages: Proficiency in Spanish is mandatory as it is the working language of UNICEF in Chile. Knowledge of additional languages is considered advantageous and may enhance a candidate's application.
Additional Notes: The internship is a paid position with a monthly allowance of CLP $350,000 gross, against an invoice. Candidates must ensure that they have the necessary visa and health insurance valid for the duration of the contract. Selected candidates will be required to confirm their full vaccination status against COVID-19 with a vaccine recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) before starting the assignment.
