Job Overview:
The Investment Officer (IO) position within the Minerals and Metals Solutions and Impact team at the IFC is a critical role that involves business development, project structuring, execution, and portfolio management in the minerals and metals sector. The IO will be responsible for leading initiatives that drive investment opportunities and support the development of sustainable practices within the sector. This position requires a strong focus on knowledge sharing and dissemination across the WBG and regional teams, ensuring that best practices are communicated and replicated where possible. The IO will also engage in relationship management with global clients, contributing to the overall mission of the WBG to create scalable impact and support economic growth in developing countries. The role will involve collaboration with various stakeholders, including regional infrastructure teams and country managers, to enhance the effectiveness of investment strategies and policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Investment Officer include:
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with strategic clients in the minerals and metals sector, as well as banking and multilateral partners, to create a robust pipeline of investment opportunities.
  • Collaborating with other members of the IFC Minerals and Metals team and regional teams to strengthen portfolio supervision and explore mining-related infrastructure opportunities.
  • Assisting in the development of sector and regional strategies and supporting policy advisory work.
  • Reviewing and analyzing business opportunities, synthesizing information into internal reports for decision-making purposes.
  • Originating, evaluating, structuring, negotiating, and closing new transactions, including portfolio restructurings and equity sales, while utilizing strong negotiation skills to resolve complex transaction challenges.
  • Coordinating with social, environmental, and technical assistance colleagues to enhance client value and achieve sustainable development impacts.
  • Contributing to knowledge dissemination about minerals and metals within the broader infrastructure team through various knowledge pieces and presentations.
  • Leading and managing project teams, mentoring junior staff and analysts within the team.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Investment Officer position include:
  • An MBA or equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of experience with a development finance institution (DFI), an international financial institution, or a private equity firm, specifically in financing minerals and metals projects in emerging markets.
  • A proven track record of successfully sourcing, structuring, and closing investments in the metals and mining sector.
  • Knowledge of other infrastructure core sectors such as power, transportation, and utilities is advantageous.
  • Strong financial skills, particularly in financial investment products including project finance, corporate loans, and equity investments.
  • Experience in financial advisory is a plus.
  • Demonstrated business development and client relationship management skills, with a focus on effectively addressing client needs.
  • A solid record of managing complex project portfolios and sound business judgment in identifying potential business partners.
  • Ability to interact independently with senior management of clients and partners, as well as colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds. 1

Educational Background:
