Job Overview:
The intern position at UN-Habitat is designed to support the Programme Review Committee (PRC) Secretariat in enhancing project quality and compliance. The intern will assist in various administrative tasks and contribute to the establishment of data banks that help identify trends, patterns, and early warnings related to project implementation. The role involves cross-checking data entries in the project information system, ensuring compliance with PRC guidelines, and managing databases. The intern will also contribute to project data reconciliation exercises and assist in developing an implementation monitoring system. This position provides an opportunity to engage with project teams to improve logical frameworks and theories of change for projects, as well as to advise project staff on the PRC process. The intern will respond to information requests from UN-Habitat branches and offices, gaining valuable insights into the workings of the UN and urban development initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Assisting the PRC Secretariat in improving project quality and compliance.
  • Performing administrative tasks and setting up data banks for trend identification.
  • Cross-checking data entries in the project information system to ensure accuracy.
  • Ensuring that projects comply with PRC guidelines and standards.
  • Managing and maintaining databases related to project information.
  • Contributing to project data reconciliation exercises across various branches and project offices.
  • Assisting in establishing an implementation monitoring system at UN-Habitat.
  • Supporting project teams in enhancing the quality of logical frameworks and theories of change for projects at entry.
  • Advising project staff regarding the PRC process and requirements. 1
  • Responding to requests for information from UN-Habitat branches and offices, facilitating effective communication and information sharing.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent). c. Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Additionally, candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite. A keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing a willingness to understand and tolerate differing opinions and views.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or being enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program, or having completed such programs. Preferred areas of study include data science, computer science, economics, political science, international development, social sciences, or related fields. It is important that the field of study is closely related to the internship position being applied for, as this will enhance the relevance of the candidate's academic background to the responsibilities of the role.

Experience:
While applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience, it is essential that their field of study is closely related to the internship they are applying for. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in Excel, including the ability to efficiently apply various functions and use pivot tables, as well as basic data analysis skills. Experience with Microsoft 365 and Power Automate is considered desirable, as it would enhance the candidate's ability to perform the tasks required in this position.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this internship position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN language, such as French, is desirable and would be an asset in this role, as it may facilitate communication and collaboration within the diverse environment of the UN.
