Job Overview: The Director, Global Plastic Policy & Corporate Engagement is a pivotal role within WWF, responsible for providing strategic oversight for the Plastic and Material Science policy portfolio. This position is integral to advancing WWF's No Plastic in Nature goal, which aims to eliminate plastic pollution and promote sustainable practices. The Director will work closely with the Vice President and cross-functional teams to assess and define priority strategies for global corporate advocacy and engagement. This role involves managing relationships with corporate partners, ensuring that their actions and investments align with WWF's conservation objectives. The Director will lead the global policy agenda related to plastics and materials, setting objectives, identifying emerging issues, and developing innovative approaches to engage corporate partners on policy solutions addressing plastic production, use, waste, and pollution. The position requires a balance of strategic planning and execution, including stakeholder convening, research guidance, and collaboration with various teams to implement WWF's initiatives effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Director will lead technical policy development and corporate advocacy, coordinating efforts between corporate engagement, Policy and Government Affairs, and conservation goal teams. Key responsibilities include establishing strategies and work plans for the intersection of the US Plastic Initiative and business engagement in the Global Treaty for Plastic Pollution. The Director will represent WWF in multi-lateral groups and external events, write case studies and technical policy briefs, and engage corporate partners in coordinated outreach with policymakers. Additionally, the Director will identify influential companies for engagement, develop WWF positions on key issues, manage related projects and relationships, and supervise staff. The role also involves mobilizing around targeted international policy asks and supporting WWF's conservation mission and vision of No Plastic in Nature.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree and have at least 10 years of relevant work experience, particularly in working with corporate partners and a background in conservation or plastic pollution issues. Excellent project management skills, strong interpersonal and communication abilities, and the capacity to present technical topics to non-experts are essential. Fluency in English is required, and international experience along with additional language skills is considered a plus. Experience with U.S. and international policy, knowledge of best practices for circularity, and familiarity with solid waste management challenges are highly preferred. The ideal candidate will demonstrate intellectual curiosity, proactive problem-solving skills, and a commitment to building a culture of inclusion.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree is mandatory for this position. Advanced degrees in environmental policy, sustainability, or related fields may be advantageous but are not explicitly required. The educational background should ideally align with the responsibilities of managing complex policy issues and engaging with corporate partners.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, particularly in corporate engagement, policy advocacy, and conservation efforts. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing teams and projects, as well as experience in navigating the complexities of environmental policy and corporate partnerships.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this role. While additional language skills are not required, they are considered beneficial, especially for candidates with international experience.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Washington, DC, and follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring employees to be in the office two days a week. The salary range for this position is between $124,000 and $178,30
