Established to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment, UNEP aims to inspire, inform, and enable nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations. UNEP’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, located in Bangkok, serves 41 countries across the region, working closely with key stakeholders including governments, the private sector, civil society, and other UN agencies.

Job Overview:
The consultant will work under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer in the Finance Unit of the Mitigation Branch, Climate Change Division. The primary focus of this position is to enhance the knowledge and skills of regional, national, and subnational climate change, climate finance, and renewable energy actors regarding gender and human rights. The consultant will also facilitate connections for women entrepreneurs and marginalized individuals with initiatives aimed at advancing renewable energy businesses. Additionally, the consultant will explore and document future opportunities to build new initiatives, ensuring that the deliverables are completed efficiently and evaluated by UNEP for quality and completeness. This role is crucial in supporting the 'EmPower: Women for Climate-Resilient Societies' programme, which aims to integrate gender equality and human rights into climate change and renewable energy initiatives across the Asia-Pacific region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's duties will include: 1) Conducting assessments to identify gaps in knowledge and skills among climate change actors regarding gender and human rights; 2) Developing and delivering training sessions and workshops aimed at enhancing understanding and capacity in these areas; 3) Facilitating networking opportunities for women entrepreneurs and marginalized groups to connect with renewable energy initiatives; 4) Documenting best practices and lessons learned from the programme to inform future initiatives; 5) Collaborating with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and private sector partners, to promote gender-responsive policies and actions; 6) Monitoring and evaluating the impact of the programme's activities and providing feedback for continuous improvement; 7) Reporting on progress and outcomes to UNEP and other relevant stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent certification in Environmental or Climate Change studies, law, sustainable development, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with five additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. An academic background in renewable energy and/or climate finance is also desirable. Candidates should possess strong communication skills and have experience working with the UN, social enterprises, and NGOs, particularly in the context of gender and human rights training.

Educational Background:
Candidates must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as Environmental Studies, Climate Change, Sustainable Development, or Law. A first-level university degree may be considered if accompanied by substantial relevant experience. Additional qualifications in renewable energy or climate finance are advantageous.

Experience:
The consultant should have at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a relevant field, particularly in international settings focused on developing network-building programmes for entrepreneurs from underrepresented or marginalized communities. Experience in providing training on gender and human rights to renewable energy actors is essential, as is familiarity with the Asia-Pacific region or Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another UN official working language is considered an asset, enhancing the consultant's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment.

Additional Notes:
The expected duration of the consultancy is four months, and the work is home-based. The position does not specify a deadline for applications, and it is important to note that the United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, ensuring a fair and transparent hiring practice.
