Job Posting Organization: The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is a pioneering international organization established to support the development of market economies and promote private and entrepreneurial initiatives in countries transitioning to market economies. Founded in 1991, the EBRD operates in over 30 countries across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, employing a diverse workforce of thousands of professionals. The organization is committed to fostering sustainable development, promoting equality, and driving digital transformation in the regions it serves.
Job Overview: The Azure Infrastructure Quality Engineer position is a critical role within the EBRD's Information Technology division, focusing on ensuring the reliability and resilience of cloud and infrastructure deployments. The engineer will be responsible for validating platform changes across various environments, including data centers and Azure, to ensure that every deployment meets the highest standards for uptime, resilience, and performance. This role requires a proactive approach to quality assurance, emphasizing that quality is engineered into the process rather than merely inspected at the end. The engineer will collaborate closely with DevOps, Cloud, and Infrastructure teams to execute testing strategies, validate requirements, and maintain automation scripts and validation playbooks. The position is designed for individuals who thrive in a dynamic environment and are passionate about embedding quality into infrastructure delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Azure Infrastructure Quality Engineer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: planning and executing testing for infrastructure changes, configuration updates, and cloud deployments; validating both functional and non-functional requirements, such as performance, resilience, and availability; collaborating with DevOps and Platform teams to verify Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployments; performing post-deployment smoke testing; identifying and documenting reliability risks; creating and maintaining automation scripts, test checks, and validation playbooks; investigating deployment or environment defects and providing clear diagnostics to support remediation; retesting fixes with a focus on latency, uptime, and failover behavior; participating in sprint planning and reviews, raising risks, and recommending testing scope for cloud services, network resilience, and availability and performance improvements.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in Quality Engineering specifically for infrastructure and platforms, rather than just applications. A solid understanding of cloud, networking, and infrastructure fundamentals is essential. Experience with monitoring and observability tools, such as Prometheus and Grafana, is required, along with hands-on experience using performance testing tools like JMeter or Locust. Familiarity with IaC-driven environments and deployment pipelines is necessary, as well as experience testing enterprise technologies. While expertise in every technology listed is not mandatory, familiarity with Cisco LAN, WAN, WiFi, VMware, NetApp, Cisco UCS, Windows and Linux platforms, SolarWinds, and Zerto is advantageous. Awareness of NIST CSF and EU DORA requirements is also beneficial.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should hold or be working towards an Azure or AWS Architect certification or possess equivalent experience. A strong educational background in computer science, information technology, or a related field is preferred, as it provides the foundational knowledge necessary for this role.
Experience: Candidates should have significant experience in Quality Engineering, particularly in the context of infrastructure and platforms. Deep experience across multi-cloud environments, container platforms, and advanced networking is highly valued. The role requires a proactive individual who can navigate complex enterprise-scale environments and contribute to the overall quality assurance process.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly those relevant to the regions in which the EBRD operates.
Additional Notes: This position is a fixed-term contract lasting three years. The EBRD promotes a hybrid working model, expecting employees to work in the office at least 50% of their time. The organization values diversity and inclusion, encouraging applications from qualified candidates regardless of their background. Compensation and benefits details are not specified in the job posting, but the EBRD is known for offering competitive packages and a supportive work environment.
