Job Overview:
The Quality Engineer specializing in Test Environment Management will play a crucial role in leading the design and orchestration of test environments at an enterprise scale. This position is pivotal in transforming how environments are structured and governed within a rapidly evolving engineering landscape. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a comprehensive strategy, implementing the necessary tooling, and establishing an operating model that enables teams to deliver technology solutions safely and efficiently. This role requires a forward-thinking leader who is adept at navigating the intersections of engineering, DevOps, cloud platforms, and environment governance. The Quality Engineer will define the provisioning, automation, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and monitoring of environments, addressing issues of fragility that can impede delivery and compromise quality. The position is based in Sofia, where the engineer will lead initiatives that enhance the stability and predictability of environments, ensuring that engineering squads can operate with confidence and agility.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Quality Engineer will have end-to-end ownership of the Test Environment strategy, which includes the following responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage environment architecture, ensuring it aligns with the overall technology strategy.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices to automate environment provisioning and configuration management.
  • Oversee environment reservation and scheduling processes to optimize resource utilization.
  • Map cross-product dependencies to ensure seamless integration across various platforms.
  • Innovate next-generation environment capabilities, such as multi-region replication, synthetic data generation, and automated data refresh pipelines.
  • Ensure environment assurance by embedding quality, resilience, and regulatory compliance (NIST, DORA, ITIL) into all environments.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, cloud, infrastructure, data, and product engineering teams to maintain stable and scalable environments.
  • Lead and influence environment direction across major transformation programs, guiding senior stakeholders through complex technical decisions.
  • Foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement within the engineering teams.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess deep expertise in Test Environment Management, with a strong background in environment provisioning, configuration management, and CI/CD-enabled environment pipelines. A solid understanding of cloud-native infrastructure patterns and experience with container orchestration is essential. The ideal candidate will have experience leading quality engineering or platform engineering functions and a comprehensive understanding of how modern quality engineering practices, observability, synthetic data, and automation converge within environment strategy. Strong leadership qualities are necessary, including the ability to coach engineers, influence architectural decisions, negotiate with vendors, and coordinate teams across different geographical locations.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in relevant areas such as cloud computing, DevOps, or quality engineering will be considered an asset. Continuous professional development and training in emerging technologies and methodologies related to environment management are highly encouraged.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in quality engineering, with a focus on test environment management. Experience in leading teams and managing complex projects in a fast-paced environment is essential. Familiarity with cloud platforms, particularly Azure, and experience in implementing modern engineering practices will be highly regarded.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly those relevant to the EBRD member countries, is considered a plus and may enhance the candidate's profile.

This position is a fixed-term contract lasting for 3 years. The role is full-time and based in Sofia, Bulgaria.
