Job Overview: The Project Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of public health activities related to vaccination services for mobile and hard-to-reach populations in Guinea. This position is integral to the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) project, which aims to enhance vaccination delivery in strategic areas identified for their high mobility and vulnerability. The Project Assistant will work under the supervision of the Chief of Mission and the National Public coordinator" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Health Coordinator, collaborating with various units within the IOM country office. The role involves assisting in the monitoring and evaluation of health project activities, particularly those aligned with the International Health Regulations (IHR). The Project Assistant will also be responsible for data management, administrative coordination, and logistical support for project activities, ensuring that all operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to improving public health outcomes in Guinea.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting in the implementation and monitoring of health project activities; supporting data collection, verification, and entry; preparing summaries and visibility materials; providing administrative and logistical support for workplan preparation and budgeting; liaising with governmental health authorities and partner agencies; drafting correspondence and documentation related to health project activities; supporting logistics for meetings and training sessions; maintaining accurate project files and databases; assisting in public health emergency response activities; compiling background information for proposal development; and participating in field missions and monitoring activities. The Project Assistant will also be expected to support information exchange between public health projects and other IOM units, ensuring that all project activities are aligned with organizational goals and donor requirements.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a school diploma with four years of relevant experience in public health, health programmes, community development, or related fields, or a Bachelor’s degree in public health, Medicine, Social or Development Sciences, or a related field from an accredited institution with two years of relevant professional experience. Additionally, candidates should have experience in liaising with governmental public health authorities and knowledge of the Guinean health system. Practical experience in data entry and management, as well as proficiency in computer applications such as MS Office, is essential. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs in a multicultural environment is advantageous, particularly familiarity with vulnerable or mobile populations.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes either a school diploma with four years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in public health, Medicine, Social or Development Sciences, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of public health initiatives and the specific challenges faced by mobile and hard-to-reach populations in Guinea.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience if they hold a Bachelor’s degree, or four years of relevant experience if they have a school diploma. Candidates should also have a proven track record of working with governmental public health authorities and international organizations, demonstrating the ability to navigate complex institutional environments and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Languages: Fluency in French and English is required for all applicants, both oral and written. Knowledge of a national language of Guinea is considered an advantage. Additional Notes: The position is subject to funding confirmation and the appointment will require certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, and necessary government authorizations.
