Job Overview:
The position of Banking and Finance Lawyer within the EIB's Legal Directorate is a full-time role based at the headquarters in Luxembourg. The successful candidate will be part of the Outside Europe A Division, which focuses on legal documentation and issues related to projects in various regions, including Neighbourhood Countries, Africa, the Caribbean, Asia, and Latin America. The role requires providing legal advice and support on lending, guarantee transactions, grants, and post-signature work related to EIB projects. The candidate will engage in both standard and complex legal matters, requiring a deep understanding of finance law and the ability to navigate various legal jurisdictions. The EIB offers a multicultural work environment and relocation support for candidates moving to Luxembourg.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Banking and Finance Lawyer will manage contacts and negotiations concerning EIB operations, drafting documents, providing legal advisory support, finalizing contracts, and completing all related legal formalities. Responsibilities include understanding and implementing specific contractual documentation, contributing to the development of grant documentation, and standard legal documentation. The lawyer will work collaboratively with team members, including coaching junior colleagues, and participate in horizontal activities relevant to the Division. Additionally, the role involves liaising with external consultants, conducting legal research, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legal developments affecting the Division's interests. The lawyer will also represent the EIB externally and develop relationships within the Bank and with external counterparts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in law, with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and preferably a Master’s degree. A legal qualification in a civil law jurisdiction is advantageous. A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in lending and finance is required, ideally gained in a reputable law firm or the in-house legal department of a financial institution. Significant experience in drafting and negotiating loan and finance documentation in both English and French is essential, along with excellent written and spoken proficiency in both languages.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in law, with a preference for candidates holding a Master’s degree. The ideal candidate should have a legal qualification, particularly in a civil law jurisdiction, which would enhance their suitability for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in the field of lending and finance. This experience should preferably be acquired in a law firm of international repute or within the in-house legal department of a financial institution. The candidate should have a proven track record in drafting and negotiating complex loan and finance documentation.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and French is mandatory for this position, as the role involves significant legal documentation and communication in both languages. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
