Job Overview:
The Project Manager role is crucial for overseeing project implementation while adhering to high-quality programming standards to meet project objectives in line with VSO's Volunteering for Development (VfD) approach. This position plays a significant role in contributing to VSO's global program portfolio, which aims to realize the vision of a fair world for everyone. The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring that projects are executed effectively, efficiently, and in alignment with VSO's mission. This includes managing resources, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring that project outcomes are achieved within the specified timelines and budgets. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances while maintaining a focus on the overall goals of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Manager will be tasked with a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Leading the planning and implementation of project activities in accordance with VSO's VfD approach.
  • Ensuring that project objectives are met within the agreed timelines and budgets.
  • Managing project resources effectively, including financial management and budget oversight.
  • Coordinating with various stakeholders, including local communities, partners, and donors, to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Monitoring and evaluating project progress, identifying challenges, and implementing solutions to overcome them.
  • Reporting on project outcomes and impacts to VSO management and stakeholders.
  • Advocating for policy changes and promoting rights-based approaches within the project framework.
  • Facilitating capacity-building initiatives for local partners and community members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Ensuring compliance with VSO's Global Volunteer Standards and promoting a culture of inclusivity and diversity within the project team.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a qualification in Livelihoods, Social Development, or Project Management, with certifications such as PMD Pro, PRINCE II, or PMP being highly desirable. Additionally, applicants should have a strong understanding of project management principles and practices, particularly in the context of development work. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to VSO's mission and values, showcasing the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is essential for this position, with a focus on fields such as Livelihoods, Social Development, or Project Management. Candidates should have completed a degree or equivalent qualification that equips them with the necessary skills and knowledge to manage complex projects effectively. Advanced certifications in project management methodologies, such as PMD Pro, PRINCE II, or PMP, are also highly valued and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of experience in managing livelihoods projects, with a specific focus on job creation and decent work initiatives. Candidates should have a proven track record in inclusive enterprise development and circular economy initiatives, demonstrating their ability to deliver impactful projects. Experience in managing donor or foundation-funded consortium projects is essential, as is familiarity with Kenya's waste management ecosystem. The ideal candidate will have strong skills in budget management, policy advocacy, and community-led approaches, as well as a commitment to social inclusion and gender equity.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within VSO and with stakeholders. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Kenya would be advantageous and is considered a plus, as it can enhance communication and engagement with local communities.

Additional Notes:
This position is a full-time role with a fixed-term contract lasting one year. The salary is classified under the Birches grade BG-09, amounting to 5,159,710.0
