Job Overview: The Assistant Inter-Agency Coordination Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the inter-agency coordination of the humanitarian response for Rohingya refugees in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. This position is vital for ensuring effective collaboration among various humanitarian actors, including UN agencies, NGOs, and government counterparts. The incumbent will be responsible for facilitating strategic planning, monitoring, and analysis of joint assessments and inter-agency plans. The incumbent will work closely with Sector Coordinators and other stakeholders to ensure that the humanitarian response is coherent and aligned with the Joint Response Plan (JRP). This position demands strong interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships and to communicate complex information clearly and effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Inter-Agency Coordination Officer include:
Providing skilled support to inter-sector processes, including coordination of the inter-agency Rohingya response.
Supporting operational planning and coordination of humanitarian and development responses.
Ensuring timely and strategic guidance to sectors and working groups at the field level.
Conducting regular programmatic and funding gap analyses aligned with the JRP.
Engaging with government counterparts to address issues related to the Rohingya response.
Facilitating inter-agency meetings and ensuring effective communication among partners.
Monitoring the implementation of the JRP and identifying problems for wider consultation.
Collecting, presenting, and disseminating inter-agency data and information.
Supporting the Senior Inter-Agency Coordination Officer in maintaining dialogue with donors regarding funding and resource status. 1
Leading different inter-sector meetings and ensuring effective coordination of the response.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess relevant experience in humanitarian or development program management, particularly in facilitating inter-agency coordination. A good understanding of the UN system, NGOs, and related planning practices is essential. Candidates should also have knowledge of refugee protection principles and frameworks. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory, along with experience in presentation delivery and public speaking. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an undergraduate degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Journalism, International Relations, Political Affairs, or a related field. A graduate degree or doctorate in a relevant field is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates with relevant experience may also be considered in lieu of formal educational qualifications.
Experience: The position requires at least one year of relevant experience for candidates with an undergraduate degree. Candidates with a graduate degree or doctorate may apply without prior experience. Relevant experience should include work in humanitarian or development program implementation, particularly in inter-agency coordination at the sector or macro-level. Experience in refugee settings and emergency response is highly desirable.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of the local language is advantageous. For international professional and field service jobs, knowledge of the UN working language of the duty station is also required if it is not English. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills in both written and spoken formats.
