Job Overview:
The Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the Senior Renewable Energy Engineer at the Department of Infrastructure and Camp Improvement (ICID) based in HQ Amman. This position involves a variety of design duties, including calculations, modeling, drafting, quantities take-off, and the development of Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and specifications in accordance with UNRWA’s policies and procedures. The Consultant is expected to work collaboratively with the engineering team to ensure that all design works are completed efficiently and effectively, adhering to the timelines set by the direct supervisor. The role also requires the Consultant to stay updated with international market trends related to materials used in renewable energy projects, particularly solar systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Consultant will be responsible for several key duties, including: assisting in the preparation of tender documents specifically for electrical works, ensuring that these documents are compatible with other ongoing works; preparing technical specifications for materials during the design phase; committing to the timely handover of design works as per the plans provided by the supervisor; archiving completed works against the timeline; preparing itemized BOQs and cost estimates for designs created by the staff; conducting market research for materials to be utilized in designs; and performing any additional duties as assigned by the supervisor. This role requires a proactive approach to ensure that all aspects of the design process are managed effectively and that the final outputs meet the required standards.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree from an accredited institution in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of three years of experience in solar system electrical design, particularly in building works, is required. Proficiency in computer-aided design and drafting software, especially AutoCAD, is essential. Candidates should also have experience in modeling and design for solar systems, using software such as Pvsyst. A strong background in electrical works design and drafting for various building projects, including schools, health centers, and housing projects, is necessary. Furthermore, candidates should have extensive experience in performing PV system design works, including site data verification, modeling, calculations, and a comprehensive understanding of system operation and maintenance procedures, including remote monitoring and intervention.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent field from an accredited educational institution. This foundational education is critical for understanding the complexities of electrical design and renewable energy systems.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience in solar system electrical design, particularly in the context of building works. This experience should encompass a range of projects, demonstrating the candidate's ability to handle various aspects of electrical design and implementation in renewable energy contexts.

Languages:
A good command of both spoken and written English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. This bilingual requirement is essential for effective communication within the team and with stakeholders, as well as for the preparation of technical documents and reports.

Additional Notes:
The position is expected to last for a duration of six months, with a monthly salary of JOD 913.77, which includes an 8.33% allowance. The Consultant is expected to be located in Amman, Jordan, and should possess a valid driving license. The role requires strong communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, and a team-oriented mindset to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
