Job Overview: The Financial Controller position is crucial for overseeing the financial cycle of the organization. The role involves monitoring the monthly financial cycle, preparing the annual accounting closure in collaboration with headquarters accounting, controlling the budgetary follow-up of missions, updating financial risks, and validating budgets for proposals and financial reports. The Financial Controller serves as a technical reference point for the financial requirements of donors and contributes to the annual programming of the desk. The position also provides functional support to administrative and financial coordinators in various countries, which includes participation in recruitment, briefings, performance reviews, and capacity building on financial and administrative aspects. Additionally, the role involves supporting missions throughout the grant cycle and supervising a finance assistant, from recruitment to evaluation, as well as participating in audits conducted at headquarters.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Financial Controller's duties include:
Monitoring the monthly financial cycle and ensuring timely reporting.
Preparing the annual accounting closure in collaboration with the headquarters accounting team.
Controlling the budgetary follow-up of missions and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
Updating financial risk assessments and cash flow forecasts for donors.
Validating budgets for proposals and financial reports submitted to donors.
Acting as a technical reference for financial requirements from donors such as ECHO, EU, BHA, SDC, UNICEF, and WFP.
Contributing to the annual programming of the desk.
Providing functional support to country administrative and financial coordinators, including participation in recruitment and performance management.
Supporting missions throughout the grant cycle, ensuring compliance with donor regulations. 1
Supervising a finance assistant, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluation. 1
Participating in audits conducted at headquarters and contributing to the development of best practices and tools within the finance team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a higher education degree, preferably from a business school or in management/finance. A strong understanding of accounting and management procedures is essential, along with knowledge of donor regulations. Candidates should demonstrate exceptional rigor in their work and possess strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with various departments and expatriates in the field. Proficiency in common office software, particularly Word and Excel, is required. Candidates must also have excellent command of English, and knowledge of Spanish is considered a plus. Familiarity with the SAGA accounting software is advantageous.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should have a higher education degree, such as a master's degree in management or finance, or a degree from a business school. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of financial management within an NGO context.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a financial coordination role within an NGO or a similar position. This experience is vital for understanding the financial landscape and the specific challenges faced by humanitarian organizations.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with international partners. Knowledge of Spanish is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication in certain operational contexts.
Additional Notes: The position is a short-term contract (CDD) for a duration of 3 months, intended as a replacement. The role is based at the headquarters of Solidarités International in Clichy la Garenne, with potential field travel (20%). There is also the possibility of teleworking, with options for 4 to 12 days of remote work per month or 100% remote work with 3 mandatory in-person days per month, in accordance with the current telework charter and manager approval. The gross monthly salary ranges from €3,502 to €3,647, depending on the salary scale in effect. Employees are entitled to 2.0833 days of paid leave per month and 1 day of RTT for each complete month of work. Additional benefits include 80% coverage for health insurance, 60% coverage for meal vouchers, and 50% reimbursement for transportation costs. The organization also provides recovery days and full medical coverage during field missions.
