Job Overview:
The position of Online United Nations Volunteers is focused on supporting the Public Information and Communications Section of UNSMIL. The role involves translating and adapting public-facing communications materials from English to Arabic, which is essential for ensuring that the Mission's messages reach a wide audience across Libya. The volunteers will be responsible for translating multimedia communications products, including web stories, videos, and graphics, which are vital for promoting informed public engagement and countering misinformation. The work will be conducted remotely, allowing for flexibility in coordination and communication with the team. Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Online United Nations Volunteers include:
  • Translating up to 12 multimedia communications products from English into Arabic, ensuring that the translations are accurate and culturally appropriate.
  • Adding Arabic subtitles or on-screen text to up to 4 short videos, based on provided scripts or source text, to enhance accessibility for Arabic-speaking audiences.
  • Reviewing translated content for clarity, accuracy, and consistency with United Nations terminology and style, making necessary revisions to improve the quality of the translations.
  • Collaborating with the Public Information and Communications Section to understand the context and objectives of the materials being translated.
  • Participating in coordination calls via Zoom or Microsoft Teams as needed to clarify tasks, provide feedback, and ensure alignment with the Mission's communication goals.
  • Adhering to deadlines and maintaining a high standard of work throughout the translation process.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the position include:
  • Proficiency in both English and Arabic, with strong translation skills and an understanding of cultural nuances in both languages.
