Job Overview: The Consultant will play a crucial role in complementing the work of the Commission by providing in-depth macroeconomic analysis, forecasting, and policy advisory services. The Consultant will be expected to engage in rigorous economic assessments, econometric modeling, and data collection, all while enhancing the analytical understanding of the rapidly evolving global context and the specific challenges faced by African nations. The role requires a focus on developing policies that support social, economic, and environmental frameworks, thereby accelerating progress towards the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda and other continental development frameworks. The Consultant will work closely with various divisions within the Commission, UN entities, and external partners to bolster the Commission's capacity to provide evidence-based policy support to African countries, ensuring that the organization remains a premier knowledge institution that addresses local solutions to the continent's problems.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Consultant will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: monitoring and analyzing global economic developments and their implications for African economies, providing timely updates and strategic insights; conducting rapid economic assessments on urgent headline events; offering input and recommendations on data collection methods for economic analysis; providing technical support for the preparation and review of ECA's knowledge products; integrating climate-related macroeconomic risks and green financing strategies into economic analysis; advising on policies and strategies related to ECA subprogrammes; developing policy briefs, technical notes, and presentations for high-level engagements; contributing technical input to ECA's participation in global and regional economic governance platforms; and undertaking other tasks as required by the Deputy Executive Secretary or her representative.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Economics or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in macroeconomic policy, economic research and analysis, and forecasting is required. Candidates should have substantial experience working with multilateral financial development institutions and relevant work experience in Africa. Familiarity with the workflows and practices of similar international organizations is also desirable, as it will enhance the Consultant's ability to navigate the complexities of the role effectively.
Educational Background: The position requires an advanced university degree, specifically a Master’s degree or equivalent, in Economics or a closely related field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the Consultant possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to perform the complex tasks associated with macroeconomic analysis and policy advisory.
Experience: The Consultant is expected to have a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in the fields of macroeconomic policy, economic research and analysis, and forecasting. This level of experience is crucial for understanding the intricacies of economic principles and their application in development programs. Additionally, substantial experience with multilateral financial development institutions is required, as well as relevant work experience in Africa, which will provide the necessary context for the Consultant's work.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Additionally, proficiency in French is also beneficial, as it is another working language of the UN. This bilingual capability will enhance communication and collaboration with various stakeholders across the continent and within international organizations.
Additional Notes: The position is expected to last for 12 months, with a total remuneration of US$99,936.00, which translates to US$8,328.00 per month, paid on a monthly basis. The role is remote, allowing for flexibility in work location.
