Job Overview: The Partnership Intern position is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to the UN's mission in China, particularly in the context of the new Cooperation Framework that emphasizes high-quality, people-centered development, climate action, and partnerships for sustainable development. The intern will work under the supervision of the UN Partnership and Financing Officer, assisting in the development of public-private partnerships that are crucial for implementing the Cooperation Framework. This role is ideal for candidates who are passionate about sustainable development and eager to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic international environment. The internship is full-time and unpaid, requiring a commitment of five days a week, eight hours a day, for a duration of six months.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Partnership Intern will have a variety of responsibilities aimed at supporting the UN's initiatives in China. Key duties include:
Assisting in the organization of major events for the Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO), which involves logistical support and the preparation of briefing documents and speeches.
Compiling and preparing briefing and presentation materials, as well as background information on China's key policies and developments relevant to the UN's work.
Supporting the organization and follow-up of inter-agency and high-level meetings or events attended by the Resident Coordinator or RCO staff members.
Providing logistical and substantive support to incoming high-level UN delegations. The intern will play a vital role in ensuring that these events and meetings are well-organized and effectively contribute to the UN's objectives in China.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for this internship, candidates should have a field of study that closely relates to the internship's focus. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams, and possess strong analytical skills and the ability to build relationships with clients.
Educational Background: Candidates must be in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree (bachelor's or equivalent), or be currently enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs. This educational background is essential to ensure that the intern has the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the UN's work in China.
Experience: While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should ideally have relevant academic experience or internships that demonstrate their interest and capability in the field of sustainable development, public-private partnerships, or international relations. The focus is on candidates who are eager to learn and contribute to the UN's mission.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is another working language of the UN. Additionally, knowledge of Chinese is considered an advantage, as it would facilitate communication and understanding of local contexts.
