Job Overview: The EmergencyProject Manager (PM) is responsible for implementing and achieving the objectives of the rapid response mechanism as outlined in proposals for North Darfur. This role involves leading and deploying rapid needs assessments and implementing SI's emergency response across various sectors, including Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA), and Non-Food Item (NFI) and Shelter distributions. The Emergency PM will oversee the recruitment, induction, capacity building, and supervision of the emergency team members. The position requires ensuring the quality and proper execution of the implemented programs, suggesting adjustments or developments as necessary to maintain relevance. The Emergency PM will collaborate closely with the Deputy Field Coordinator to understand the context, implement emergency responses in key areas, and build acceptance with communities while addressing the critical needs of the populations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Emergency PM will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Conducting rapid needs assessments to identify the immediate needs of affected populations.
Leading the implementation of emergency response activities across various sectors, ensuring timely delivery of aid.
Recruiting and training emergency team members, providing them with the necessary support and supervision.
Ensuring the quality of programs implemented and making recommendations for improvements as needed.
Coordinating with consortium partners and other stakeholders to ensure effective joint implementation of programs.
Developing strategies for emergency response in newly accessible areas, including conducting security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security assessments in collaboration with the Field Coordinator and Security Manager.
Managing the challenges associated with high levels of emergency needs, a large volume of activities, and security constraints.
Leading the field WASH cluster and strengthening coordination among consortium partners at the field level.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong technical skills in managing rapid needs assessments and response activities, with a focus on delivering aid efficiently. They should have experience in coordinating with various actors and implementing joint programs with consortium partners. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate the ability to work under pressure, show adaptability, and possess autonomy and initiative in their work. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for building relationships with communities and stakeholders.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background in humanitarian aid, international development, or a related field is required. Candidates should have a solid understanding of the principles and practices of emergency response and humanitarian assistance.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 0-2 years in a similar position. This experience should include managing emergency response activities and working in challenging environments.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in Arabic is considered a strong advantage, as it will facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is a salaried role with compensation starting from EUR 2310 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 750 is provided. SI covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate's country of origin and the place of assignment. The contract duration is for six months, with a system of alternating work and time off implemented at the rate of seven working days every three months. Expatriates are also entitled to an insurance package that covers healthcare expenses, including medical, surgical, dental, and repatriation costs. Living conditions include accommodation in a guest house with amenities such as 24/7 internet access and hot water, although social life may be limited due to a curfew at 9:00 PM.
