Job Overview: The position of GEA-Consultant on Sustainable Development involves the preparation of a local development strategy under Cluster
The consultant will be responsible for developing strategies that align with sustainable development goals, particularly focusing on local contexts and needs. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of sustainable development principles and practices, as well as the ability to engage with local stakeholders to ensure that the strategies developed are relevant and actionable. The consultant will work closely with UNDP and local authorities to gather data, analyze current development challenges, and propose innovative solutions that promote sustainable growth and community resilience. The assignment duration is set for 10 months, from February 2026 to November 2026, with a maximum of 40 working days allocated for the consultant's engagement. Travel to specific locations such as Višegrad and Nevesinje may be required to facilitate stakeholder consultations and data collection.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Conducting a thorough analysis of the current local development landscape, identifying key challenges and opportunities for sustainable development.
Engaging with local stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and civil society organizations, to gather insights and foster collaboration.
Developing a comprehensive local development strategy that incorporates sustainable practices and aligns with national and international development goals.
Preparing detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to UNDP and relevant stakeholders.
Facilitating workshops and meetings to discuss the strategy and gather feedback from stakeholders.
Ensuring that the strategy is inclusive and considers the needs of marginalized groups within the community.
Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the strategy, providing recommendations for adjustments as necessary.
Collaborating with other consultants and experts as needed to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the strategy.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in sustainable development, with specific qualifications including:
A proven track record of developing and implementing local development strategies or similar projects.
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex development issues and propose viable solutions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective engagement with diverse stakeholders.
Familiarity with UNDP's mission and sustainable development goals is highly desirable.
Proficiency in project management and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Master's degree in a relevant field such as sustainable development, public policy, social sciences, or a related discipline is required. Additional certifications or training in project management or community development would be advantageous.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 5 years of professional experience in sustainable development, local governance, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of UNDP projects, is highly preferred. Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and community-based development initiatives will be considered a significant asset.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of local languages, particularly Bosnian, Croatian, or Serbian, is considered an advantage and will enhance communication with local stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as an individual contractor role, with a contract duration of 10 months. The consultant will be expected to work on a part-time basis, with a maximum of 40 days of engagement throughout the assignment period. The position may require travel to specific locations within Bosnia and Herzegovina, and candidates should be prepared for this aspect of the role.
