Job Overview:
The UNV Communications, Partnerships and Events Specialist will play a crucial role in implementing the communications strategy for UN-Habitat in Ukraine. This position involves identifying opportunities to enhance the visibility of UN-Habitat and its projects, advocating for sustainable urban recovery, and establishing the organization as a leader in urban planning and design. The specialist will be responsible for producing a variety of communication materials, including articles, social media content, and presentations, while also facilitating partnerships with government entities, academia, and civil society organizations. Additionally, the role includes organizing events and managing UN-Habitat's online presence, ensuring effective communication with stakeholders and the media. The specialist will also support translation efforts and engage with diverse groups to promote knowledge sharing and collaboration.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the UNV Communications, Partnerships and Events Specialist include:
  • Implementing the communications strategy for UN-Habitat in Ukraine, focusing on visibility, advocacy, and positioning the organization as an expert in urban planning.
  • Producing and commissioning communication materials such as news articles, blog posts, social media content, presentations, brochures, posters, and videos.
  • Establishing partnerships with government entities, academia, companies, and civil society organizations to enhance the visibility of UN-Habitat's projects.
  • Organizing and facilitating events, meetings, conferences, and workshops, including managing logistics.
  • Managing and improving UN-Habitat's web and social media presence, including content creation and design.
  • Establishing contacts with journalists and media outlets for press briefings and media outreach.
  • Translating key communications materials as needed.
  • Regularly interacting with a diverse group of stakeholders, including project teams and local and international personnel.
  • Performing any other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a strong background in communications, partnerships, and event management. Candidates should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality content for various platforms. Experience in establishing partnerships and working with diverse stakeholders is essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate creativity, professionalism, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively are also required.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a degree in communications, public relations, international relations, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred but not mandatory. Relevant certifications in communications or project management may also be beneficial.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of professional experience in communications, partnerships, or event management, preferably within an international organization or non-profit sector. Experience working in crisis or post-crisis contexts is an advantage, as is familiarity with urban planning and development issues.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Ukrainian is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly Russian, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's profile.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer position, and the volunteer is responsible for organizing their own accommodation. The contract is full-time and may be extended based on funding and performance. The monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) is USD 1690, which covers housing and living expenses. Additional benefits include a one-time entry lump sum payment of USD 400, medical and life insurance coverage, and leave entitlements including annual leave, learning leave, and sick leave.
