Job Overview: The intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Human Rights Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the OHCHR's mission in Cambodia. Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's daily responsibilities will include assisting with coordination activities related to thematic and country mandates on human rights projects and activities. Specific duties may involve drafting and preparing official documents, conducting thematic, legal, and internet research, compiling data and statistics, attending and summarizing conferences and meetings, providing assistance during conferences and workshops, drafting presentations and speeches, conducting media analysis, and performing other related duties as requested by the supervisor. The intern will gain hands-on experience in the field of human rights and contribute to meaningful projects that impact the lives of individuals in Cambodia.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to human rights and possess relevant skills that will contribute to the OHCHR's work.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should have a background in law, international relations, human rights, social sciences, or a related field. A graduate degree or a bachelor's degree nearing completion is required, ensuring that the intern has a solid foundation in the principles of human rights and the workings of international organizations.
Experience: While prior experience in human rights or related fields is not mandatory, any relevant internships, volunteer work, or academic projects will be considered an asset. The internship is designed for individuals who are looking to gain practical experience and develop their skills in a professional setting.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another United Nations official language, such as Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, or proficiency in Khmer, would be advantageous and enhance the intern's ability to contribute effectively to the team.
Additional Notes: This internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Cambodia may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization. It is important for successful candidates to discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer. The internship is expected to last until April 1, 2026, with an initial period of three months.
