Job Overview: The DFV Family Support Specialist position is a Max Term part-time role within the Refuge and Recovery team in Moreton Bay, aimed at supporting children and families experiencing Domestic and Family Violence (DFV), vulnerability, trauma, and displacement. The role involves providing crisis accommodation support and mobile outreach to families facing DFV, as well as working with families who have transitioned from refuge to community housing. The specialist will engage in holistic, trauma-informed case management, assess risks, and collaborate with families to set meaningful goals while linking them to appropriate services and supports. This position is crucial in promoting child, family, and community wellbeing, and requires a commitment to culturally respectful and trauma-informed practices.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the DFV Family Support Specialist include:
Collaborating with families and stakeholders to assess Domestic and Family Violence risk and develop safety plans.
Providing holistic, trauma-informed case management to children and families facing complex challenges.
Building family capacity through strengths-based, client-centered, and outcomes-focused approaches.
Conducting intakes, risk and needs assessments, and supporting families in setting and achieving meaningful goals.
Linking families with appropriate services, supports, and safe accommodation, including advocacy when necessary.
Working collaboratively with internal teams and community partners to enhance child, family, and community wellbeing.
Maintaining accurate case notes and data collection within electronic systems to ensure effective case management.
Required Qualifications: The position requires the following qualifications:
Demonstrated experience working with culturally diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
Proven experience utilizing trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches in practice.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaboratively establish goals with families.
Experience in case management, data collection, and maintaining accurate case notes within electronic systems.
A relevant Degree or Diploma in fields such as Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or Social Sciences, or significant equivalent experience.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a relevant Degree or Diploma in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Social Sciences, or a related field. Alternatively, significant equivalent experience in a relevant area may be considered acceptable. This educational background is essential to ensure that the specialist has the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively support families experiencing DFV and related challenges.
Experience: The role requires demonstrated experience in working with vulnerable families, particularly those affected by Domestic and Family Violence. Candidates should have a strong background in case management, including risk assessment and safety planning, as well as experience in collaborating with diverse communities. Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and the ability to engage with families in a culturally respectful manner are also critical components of the required experience.
