Since its establishment, UN-Habitat has been instrumental in addressing urban challenges and promoting urbanization as a transformative force that reduces inequality, discrimination, and poverty. In Lebanon, UN-Habitat has been operational for over 15 years, responding to post-war reconstruction needs and working on housing, shelter provision, and urban policy analyses to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 11, which aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.

Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is designed for individuals who are passionate about urban development and communication. The intern will work closely with the Operations team and report directly to the Administrative Officer, under the guidance of the Head of the Country Programme. The primary focus of this role is to support the development of creative and effective communication materials that enhance the visibility of UN-Habitat's projects. This includes creating signboards, reports, publications, promotional items, posters, leaflets, maps, presentations, newsletters, and infographics. The intern will also assist in producing visuals, posts, and videos for online and offline communication, ensuring that all materials adhere to UN-Habitat's guidelines. The role requires staying updated with the latest trends in visual content creation and conducting research to effectively communicate project stories to diverse audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Supporting the development of communication materials that enhance the visibility of UN-Habitat’s projects.
  • Creating signboards, reports, publications, promotional items, posters, leaflets, maps, presentations, newsletters, and infographics.
  • Assisting in the production of visuals, posts, and videos to communicate project events both online and offline.
  • Editing and retouching videos and photos for UN-Habitat’s social media platforms.
  • Maintaining and archiving all produced materials in a filing system.
  • Conducting research to stay informed about the latest technology and trends in visual content creation.
  • Ensuring that all developed communication materials align with UN-Habitat’s guidelines.
  • Participating in other activities and special projects as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Additionally, candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite. A demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are essential. Candidates should also have the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing a willingness to understand and tolerate differing opinions and views.

Educational Background:
The preferred educational background for this internship includes being in the final year of a bachelor’s degree or currently enrolled in a Master’s program, or having graduated within the last year in fields such as Graphic Design, Advertising, or any related area. Applicants must provide proof of their educational status, such as an official certificate, at a later stage of the application process.

Experience:
While applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience, it is essential that their field of study closely relates to the type of internship they are applying for. Candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in urban development and communication, as well as a commitment to the values of the United Nations.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this internship position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable, and familiarity with another UN language is also considered a plus.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, meaning that all costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Lebanon may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
