Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is part of the Josour initiative launched by ESCWA in 2022, aimed at reducing inequalities in the Arab region by creating employment opportunities for young people. The intern will assist the Josour team in managing and growing the platform, which connects youth with institutions and the private sector. The role involves supporting various aspects of platform management, partner engagement, youth engagement, communication, and technical coordination. The intern will contribute to research activities related to youth empowerment and assist in other duties as needed to advance the initiative's objectives. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic environment focused on social impact and youth empowerment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Assisting in the daily management of the Josour platform by monitoring partners’ inputs and announcements, such as job opportunities, events, and updates.
Helping partners to update and post job, training, and internship opportunities on the platform to ensure that the information is current and accessible.
Engaging with youth opportunity seekers by providing guidance on how to navigate the platform and assisting them throughout their journey to find suitable opportunities.
Responding to inquiries from opportunity seekers under the guidance of the team, ensuring that all questions are addressed promptly and effectively.
Contributing to the technical coordination of the platform by reviewing its functionality and user experience, and suggesting enhancements to improve usability.
Assisting in research activities related to the scope of the Josour initiative, particularly focusing on youth empowerment and employment issues.
Performing additional tasks as requested by the team to support the overall objectives of the initiative and contribute to its growth and success.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree as defined above. Additionally, applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications, demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and show a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. They should also possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, demonstrating tolerance and understanding of differing opinions and views.
Educational Background: Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate program or in the final year of their undergraduate studies. This educational background is essential as it ensures that the intern has the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the Josour initiative. A degree in social sciences, international relations, development studies, or a related field is preferred, as it aligns with the objectives of the internship and the work of ESCWA.
Experience: While prior work experience is not mandatory for this internship, any relevant experience in areas such as project management, youth engagement, or social development will be considered an asset. Interns should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges, as well as the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment. Previous volunteer work or internships in similar fields can enhance an applicant's profile.
Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic is required for this position, as these are the working languages of ESCWA. Knowledge of French is considered desirable, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas: speaking, reading, writing, and understanding, while knowledge is defined as 'confident' in two of the four areas.
Additional Notes: This internship is expected to last for a duration of six months, with flexible working arrangements available upon written agreement with the receiving entity. Interns must commit to at least two months of full-time work and complete their internship within the six-month timeframe. It is important to note that interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, and they are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Additionally, interns must provide proof of valid medical insurance coverage for the duration of the internship and submit a medical certificate of good health prior to starting.
