Comoros has been a member state of IOM since 2013, and the IOM Mission for Madagascar and Comoros, based in Madagascar, represents the organization to the Union Government and national partners, coordinating the implementation of programs by the IOM Country Office in Moroni, Comoros.

Job Overview:
The Project Assistant will support the technical implementation of activities related to the European Union funded project 'Data Action on Mixed Migration in Sub-Saharan Africa'. This project aims to create a cohesive sub-continental data system that harmonizes the collection, analysis, and dissemination of migration data across Sub-Saharan Africa. The Project Assistant will be responsible for preparing monthly work plans and progress reports, collecting and compiling necessary information to monitor and evaluate project implementation, and verifying project expenditures in collaboration with the Administration and Finance Unit. The role also involves providing technical and administrative support for training workshops, capacity building, and other conferences, as well as logistical support for missions and trips by experts and external participants to Comoros. The Project Assistant will contribute to establishing and maintaining dynamic working relationships with national counterparts, partners, and UN agencies, and will assist in identifying problems in project implementation for appropriate action.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the technical implementation of all activities related to the project objectives.
  • Prepare monthly work plans and progress reports.
  • Collect and compile necessary information for monitoring and evaluating project implementation.
  • Verify project expenditures with the Administration and Finance Unit.
  • Provide technical and administrative support for training workshops and capacity building activities.
  • Offer logistical support for missions and trips by experts and external participants.
  • Establish and maintain working relations with national counterparts and partners.
  • Assist in identifying problems in project implementation and refer them to the Head of Office.
  • Contribute at the technical level in working meetings.

Required Qualifications:
  • Completed high school degree with three years of relevant professional experience, or a university degree in Political or Social Science, Law, International Relations, or a related field with at least one year of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in data collection and reporting.
  • Experience writing technical documents and compiling datasets.
  • Familiarity with data protection guidelines and principles.
  • Experience working with migrants, refugees, and vulnerable groups.
  • Experience liaising with governmental authorities and UN agencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of migration issues in the country is an advantage.
  • Experience in the United Nations system is an advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have either a completed high school degree from an accredited institution with three years of relevant experience or a university degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution with at least one year of relevant experience. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience:
The position requires either three years of relevant professional experience for candidates with a high school diploma or at least one year of relevant professional experience for candidates with a university degree. Experience should include data collection, data reporting, and working with vulnerable populations such as migrants and refugees. Familiarity with governmental and international institutions is also necessary, along with strong communication skills and knowledge of migration issues.

Languages:
Fluency in French and English is required, both oral and written. IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish. Proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
The position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Comoros will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon medical fitness certification, verification of residency, and necessary government authorizations. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct incompatible with its objectives, including discrimination and harassment. The selection process may also be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar positions for 24 months.
