Job Overview: The Messenger position at IOM is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of the organization's daily activities. The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of tasks that include collecting and delivering mail, documents, and other communications, as well as monitoring and replenishing supplies within the office. This role requires a proactive approach to maintaining the office environment, ensuring that all necessary supplies are available and that the office is well-maintained. The Messenger will also be responsible for driving IOM vehicles, ensuring their maintenance, and keeping accurate records of vehicle usage. The position demands a high level of confidentiality and discretion, as the Messenger will often be in contact with sensitive information and IOM officials. The ideal candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with other staff members and contribute to a positive work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Collect and deliver mail, documents, pouches, and other communications/items from and to the country office as required.
Monitor stock availability of cleaning supplies and equipment, including paper towels, toilet paper, and hand soap.
Replenish and load water dispensers at designated areas.
Assist with dispatching weekly/monthly needs of the cleaning team in coordination with P&L staff.
Escort service providers during their work related to the building.
Perform minor maintenance works, including routine checks of bathrooms, water tanks, generators, and solar panels, reporting any issues to P&L staff.
Conduct minor repairs of office furniture and fixtures.
Ensure sufficient stock of drinking water and manage daily supply to office water coolers.
Drive assigned IOM vehicles as needed, ensuring their roadworthiness through daily checks and arranging for minor repairs. 1
Maintain confidentiality and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security during transport of IOM officials and property. 1
School diploma and relevant experience in messenger services.
A minimum of two years of relevant experience in a similar role.
Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations or government institutions is an advantage.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
Knowledge of office service and maintenance procedures is essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a school diploma. Accredited universities recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database are preferred. Relevant experience in messenger services is also required, emphasizing the importance of practical knowledge in this field.
Experience: Candidates should have at least two years of relevant experience in messenger services or a similar role. Experience working with international humanitarian organizations or in a multi-cultural setting is highly advantageous, as it demonstrates the ability to navigate diverse environments and understand the complexities of humanitarian work.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic (oral and written) is required for this position. Knowledge of IOM's official languages, which include English, French, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance communication within the organization and with external partners.
