Job Overview: The Online Volunteer position is designed to support the World Health Organization's efforts in combating misinformation and enhancing health communication strategies in the Western Pacific Region. The volunteer will work under the guidance of the Technical Officer for Risk Communication and Community Engagement, collaborating closely with the communications team. The primary function of this role involves conducting social listening activities to identify misinformation trends and public sentiment regarding health issues. The volunteer will dedicate approximately 1-2 hours daily to perform social listening scans using the Talkwalker tool, producing concise daily summaries and weekly reports that synthesize findings and highlight significant conversations related to health hazards. This role is crucial in supporting WHO's mission to improve health literacy and community resilience, particularly during global health crises.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct daily social listening scans using the Talkwalker tool to identify trends, risks, misinformation, and public sentiment for 1-2 hours per day.
Produce concise daily summaries that highlight key findings and significant conversations on high-priority health hazards.
Develop weekly reports that synthesize observed patterns, shifts in narratives, and strategic considerations based on the collected infodemic signals.
Provide timely alerts on emerging issues requiring immediate attention within 1 day.
Collaborate with the communications team to ensure alignment with WHO's health communication strategies.
Support the overall goal of enhancing community trust and informed health decision-making through effective communication.
Required Qualifications:
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends.
Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise reports.
Familiarity with social media platforms and tools for social listening, particularly Talkwalker or similar tools.
Understanding of health communication principles and the impact of misinformation on public health.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
Educational Background: A background in public health, communications, social sciences, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with relevant coursework or experience in health communication, social mediaanalysis, or public health research will be given priority.
Experience: Previous experience in social media analysis, public health communication, or related fields is desirable. Familiarity with health issues and the ability to engage with diverse communities will enhance the effectiveness of the volunteer's contributions.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, as all reports and communications will be conducted in English. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the Western Pacific Region is considered an asset, as it may facilitate better understanding of local contexts and sentiments.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position requiring a commitment of approximately 1-2 hours per day. The role is remote, allowing for flexibility in work hours.
