Job Overview:
The position of Healthcare & Hazardous Waste Management Expert is crucial for providing long-term technical advisory services in the field of healthcare waste management. The expert will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to manage hazardous waste generated by healthcare facilities effectively. This role involves assessing current waste management practices, identifying areas for improvement, and ensuring compliance with international standards and regulations. The expert will work closely with healthcare providers, government agencies, and other stakeholders to enhance waste management systems, promote safe disposal methods, and minimize environmental impact. Additionally, the expert will be expected to provide training and capacity-building initiatives to healthcare staff to ensure sustainable practices are adopted.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of existing healthcare waste management practices in various facilities.
  • Develop and implement waste management plans that comply with national and international regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance on the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous healthcare waste.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to improve waste segregation practices and reduce waste generation.
  • Organize and deliver training sessions for healthcare staff on best practices in waste management.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of waste management strategies and make necessary adjustments.
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation on waste management activities and outcomes.
  • Liaise with government agencies and stakeholders to promote awareness and compliance with waste management regulations.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in environmental science, public health, or a related field. They should have a thorough understanding of healthcare waste management principles and practices, as well as relevant legislation. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. The candidate should also demonstrate a commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Environmental Science, Public Health, Waste Management, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in hazardous waste management or environmental management systems would be advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of professional experience in healthcare waste management or a related field. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or NGOs in similar roles will be highly regarded. Proven track record of developing and implementing waste management strategies in healthcare settings is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic is an asset, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and healthcare providers.

This position is classified as an Individual Contractor (IC) role, indicating a temporary contract arrangement. The contract duration and specific terms will be discussed during the selection process. The position is full-time and may require travel within Lebanon to various healthcare facilities.
