Job Overview: The Social MediaIntern position is located within the UNRIC in Brussels, specifically in the Information Centres Service of the Department of Global Communications. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Digital Communications Assistant or Desk Officer. The role involves planning, creating, and curating content for UNRIC’s social media channels, as well as monitoring and gathering multimedia information related to UN activities. The intern will assist in editing and subtitling news videos, creating visuals, and drafting posts for various social media platforms. This position is crucial for enhancing the visibility of UNRIC’s work and engaging with the public through social media. The intern will also participate in live event coverage and contribute to monthly performance reports of social media accounts, ensuring that the UNRIC's messaging is effectively communicated to a local audience.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Social Media Intern will have a variety of responsibilities, including:
Utilizing UNRIC Trello Boards for planning and curating content.
Collecting multimedia information from different departments and organizations.
Monitoring sources for new content related to UN activities.
Assisting in editing and subtitling news videos for social media channels using software like Adobe Premiere Pro or Canva.
Creating visuals and quote cards as requested.
Attending press conferences and events to gather quotes, photos, and videos for social media posts.
Drafting posts for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
Researching trends and suggesting retweets/reposts.
Monitoring social media accounts for comments and questions. 1
Actively participating in live coverage of events in Brussels. 1
Assisting in drafting monthly reports on social media performance. 1
Carrying out other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Proof of enrollment or completion of the relevant academic program must be provided with the application.
Educational Background: Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. The educational background should be relevant to the internship, ensuring that the intern has the necessary knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the UNRIC's social media efforts.
Experience: No prior professional work experience is required for this internship position. However, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship, particularly in communications, media, or related fields.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, fluency in one or more of the following languages is desirable: Danish, Dutch, French, Finnish, German, Greek, Icelandic, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish.
